He he, that brings back memories of late night chats in the pub with my dad.
Back just before I was born, or just after (I can't remember now I'm in my
30's!) when my uncle was in the British Army in the United Arab Emirates he
sent a live scorpion in a tin to my dad through the post. When my dad opened
the tin, which my uncle had thoughtfully not marked "live scorpion" in case
it got checked somewhere in the postal system, the scorpion jumped out, ran
around a bit, a then promptly died. My dad still has it set in a plastic
resin block from when he used to mess around with creating paperweights -
along with a skink, a hercules beetle, a few flies, and part of my
christening cake (he did have a couple of fish too but my mum dropped them
when cleaning one day and they developed hairline cracks, just enough to let
them rot inside the resin and turn to liquid, at which point I was told to
take them to school to give to my biology teacher as my parents didn't want
to risk the stuff leaking out and stinking the house out!). Ah, memories :)
