I've been sending cash Internationally for years via registered mail and
never knew it was illegal.  Can anyone clarify thi?

Hi Brian... I think that is correct.  I think it's illegal/not allowed in
any form to send cash (cash alone).

No, it varies from country to country, and from carrier to carrier.

It is my understanding that it is OK to send money as far as USPS is
concerned. If you want to read all about it, see their WWW page with this
particularly memorable little URL:

http://www.usps.com/search97cgi/s97_cgi?action=View&VdkVgwKey=http%3A%2F%2Fwww
%2Eusps%2Ecom%2Fcpim%2Fftp%2Fpubs%2Fpub52%2Ehtm&DocOffset=3&DocsFound=267&Quer
yZip=prohibited&Collection=external&&HLNavigate=off

which is Schedule 52 of hazardous, restricted and perishable mail. There is no
mention of any restriction on sending cash. And frankly I can see why; there
are clearly people out there sending things a lot more worrying than a few
notes!

For example, did you know you can mail day-old chickens, ducks, geese, and
partridges but not canaries, cockatiels, emus (I am *not* making this up!),
finches, parakeets and parrots? It is OK to send live scorpions (in certain
circumstances), as well as "small harmless cold-blooded animals".

This document is full of information you definitely didn't need to know,
including whether or not you can mail:

* carbonated beverages
* machine guns
* fire alarm systems
* baby alligators
* safety matches
* natural (or depleted) uranium
* mouthwash
* icepicks

Lego didn't even rate a mention!
