Hello,

Today, with nothing better to do, I copied all my set purchases from a chart
of graph paper into Microsoft Pocket Excell on my HP 32O LX (WindowsCE). I
did a quick column sum for parts number and cost and came up with the
following:

Total Sets: 131
Total Parts: 10 587
Total Cost: $3 471.61 (CDN)

Geez. That sure seems like a lot! But I'm not sure about that. Based on what
I've seen it sure seems like a lot of you guys out there have a lot more
than that. Where do I stand?

For what it's worth I recently turned 18 and have been collecting ever since
I was 3. That was back in November of 1984. I have it down here the first
set was from McDonalds, "Truck", and it had 17 peices and cost (at the time)
$0.59.

My favourite sets include:

December 1989: Freight Train (7722)
December 1990: Futuron Monorail (6990)
February 1994: Lego Technic Control Centre (9753)
September 1998: Mindstorms (9719)

I've really had a great life with LEGO and it's helped me so much to
understand many of the mechanisms that I see at Amusement Parks on roller
coasters (my other life passion) and robots (the other one (^: ).

I've really enjoyed reading the various groups of LUGNet!

I have in excess of 1700 sets totaling over 250,000 pieces. All of my lego are in storage at the moment as I will be moving to Saratoga New York some time around April. The new House (currently under construction) will have a 1300 + square foot (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)
  Re: How many sets?

My (and my 6yr old son's) set list is rather small but the parts count is not to shabby. 96 sets (between both of us) 24,400 pieces (over half are my Technic parts) and $1,945.75 (approx since some were gifts and others I can get a price on since (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)
  Re: How many sets?

I refuse to count up my sets, pieces, and $ spent, as I know I'll have a heart attack if I do ;-) Best estimates: Total sets: 200+ Total parts: 200,000+ (5571s are 50K+, 8880s are 7500+, 8448s are 4224, 8480 are 5K+, trains are 17K+) Total $$: (...) (25 years ago, 3-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)
  Re: How many sets?

(...) I had my collection all neatly organized (an Excel spreadsheet) with the sets I bought (since 1974 - about 1600), how many pieces each set has (average 170 to 180 per set), how many copies of each (I average 2 each, although in my early days (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jan-00, to lugnet.general)
