  Your Resumes

Hi, Do you people include "Lego enthusiast" under the heading "Hobbies & Interests" in your resumes? Bryan (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

Heck no! I wouldn't even put that in if I was applying for a job at TLC, depending on the job. (theme development yes, network engineer no). 1. It's not at all relevant to the professional skills/duties for the job. You should not have anything in (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) My boss at my last job was a Lego fan! However I agree with you, and have taken it off my CV. I now employ the euphemism "being creative". (URL) would like to think that my skills got me the job, and not being pally with the management. I also (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) Really? I thought the "Hobbies and Interests" section was to get an idea of the type of person that you are - someone with a good personality can make a positive impact to the team. Whereas the type of geek who loves the machine more than the (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) I agree with Kevin - no. I'd generally recommend not putting a Hobbies section on your resume in the first place. Except for a few very rare situations, your hobbies won't get you in the door or get you hired, but they may very well keep you (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) No. However (not resume-related), when my wife was a test team manager and hiring, she would have the "Lego test" as part of the job interview. It would be a small set with instructions, ~20 pieces, with a couple pieces a different color, and (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) It's on all my college applications, but then again, they specifically ask for hobbies, activities, and interests. For those people who know about LEGO robotics (and I hope many educators do), I think that has helped to raise the esteem of (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) Maybe in your area. In Sillycon Valley, a SHORT Interests section gets you noticed. Most companies here want to know if you are a fit technically AND psychologically. (...) Again, not in Sillycon Valley - all I ever get is people in shock, (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) True, and you don't have to answer it. However, it gives a good look at your drive and personality. You may be the perfect technical person for a job, but if you are a PITA that can't get along with anyone, you aren't much use to a company. Or (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

I'll agree to that. Here in Atlanta, the tech job market is pretty tight and employers want both technically knowledgeable people with good outside interests. I've always had a short Hobbies section on my resume and it's gotten me in the door on (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

When just coming out of college and looking for a job, I tried to highlight the leadership aspects of my extracuricular activities. I would still do so. I also agree that presenting the appearance of a well rounded person is valuable. Another (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) Here in NoVA it's pretty much the same as SV, and I'm in the internet/software industry too. When I look at a resume', I couuld care less about their hobbies and interests, I'm looking for skills and experience. I use the interview to assess (...) (25 years ago, 9-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) Sure it is. British Tobacco may not want you to work for them if you're an anti smoking activist. Or if your SO works for RJ Reynolds. Or if you jump out of airplanes, it may not be wise to put you on the critical path on a regular basis. (or (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Well, ok, I'll bite. :) 5: You're a lemming. 4: The commuter traffic is a real pain, and your suburb is just a *little* to the left... more... ok, GO! 3: There's a Lego sale down there. 2: Harrison Ford has already used the Presidential Escape (...) I haven't, but since it was declared the toy of the century by Forbes, I may just tag it in there. 'Course I've got the new supercar on my desk at work now. Might be a *sligh* giveaway. 8) -- Ben Vaughan buster@marsbase.com (URL) few, the (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I think the question is better phrased as: "How in the world did they get *FISH* mixed up with this fried food-product fillet?" I must be getting on in the years.   Re: Your Resumes

(...) Very true. Not too long ago, I went to a McDonalds, and had to assist the high- school student cashier in counting out my change. I'll have some McMath with that order. (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Your Resumes

I've been known to pull up to the speaker and ask them what kind of fish is in the sandwich, because my doctor won't let me eat anything that swims below 10 fathoms.   Food WAS: (Re: Your Resumes)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) Actually, they use founder. McDonald's may use styrofoam containers and throw away 15.7 billion tons of meat a year, but at least they know how to recycle personnel. So why can't the fish be from below 10 fathoms? Would this include fish that (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

  Re: Your Resumes

(...) Actually, the whole ten fathoms thing is just a joke. I just did it to further harass already wearied McDonalds employees. Honestly, I don't have a clue how deep a fathom is. The point was to see how much nonsense that they'd put up with. Kind (...) (25 years ago, 10-Dec-99, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
