Sorry, not to veer off-off-topic, but I had to de-lurk to say that I absolutely *loved* Amoeba Wars. I played a bunch of Avalon Hill games and that one was the best (although I think was one called "War in the Pacific" or something that I also (...) (22 years ago, 27-Nov-02, to lugnet.gaming)

The rules as written definetly make a portable game. Many rule books just include sections with the optional rules. This keeps the game easy to play as beginners but also gives the advanced gamers something to sink their teeth into once the basic (...) (22 years ago, 26-Nov-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.gaming)

Thanks for the ideas. I sense two versions of the game coming on: The idea was spawned from a thread about using a small tackle box to carry around pieces for making little bots. This is neat! The rules you started a great. If I were to play this game I would include hidden placement of sensors and mines. (...) Steve, that's not true. Most rules are indeed set up in the "two-player" frame of mind, as was M:TG, but this is where creativity comes in. (...) Yes - I like this idea - equivalent to your deck in a CCG. Capturing pieces might be a problem as it would be tough to remember exactly who owned what.
