  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

Bryan has contacted me privately and assured me that both his statement below, and David Gregory's previous statement about nobody making money, are truthful and accurate. As these are unambiguous statements, this clears up the whole issue for me in (...) (19 years ago, 17-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) Really? I have just finished reading every post in this group and could not find a place where the organizers have said this. If it was said somewhere else, then it probably should be repeated here for those of us who do not read every post on (...) (19 years ago, 17-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld)

  What was the question?

(...) ... (...) Marc, From all the examples you listed, it appears several people have tried to answer your questions. Wouldn't you agree? Personally, I don't understand what you think they are trying to hide. If you want to assume people that run (...) (19 years ago, 17-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX) !

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) It has also been answered several ways: 1. (URL): You also asked about money. Bryan and Adam are assuming the financial risk (and its large) for the event. And, while the event is not being created to make money there is the possibility that (...) (19 years ago, 17-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) Community, John asks above - why is the simple question not answered? In our minds, it has been answered - several times. Please refer to the most recent reference to the answer: (URL) We hope you can all find a way to be part of Brickworld. (...) (19 years ago, 17-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) With all the posts on this subject, I'm sure it's easy to miss the posts where this has been said. But, it has been said. The organizers have said more than once that any "extra" money will be used to make future events better. They have a (...) (19 years ago, 17-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

This seems like a simple question. Why is it not answered? Tim is always negative,no matter what. Besides who really cares, someone should just answer the question without getting into philosophy. John P (19 years ago, 17-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) I think that this sort of information is VERY important when an event is soliciting the public for volunteers, especially if they are actually expecting people to volunteer their time and effort. The intention/purpose of the show is also very (...) (19 years ago, 17-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) A pox on the daughters of the Tims! JOHN (19 years ago, 16-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) In the UK train shows (in my experience) are run by clubs, rather than companies set up to running shows as some seem to be in US (correct me if I am wrong). Yes, they are for profit (or at least that the aim!), the profit goes to help offset (...) (19 years ago, 16-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) Yeah, they had just gotten their first real six-string, as I recall... JOHN (19 years ago, 16-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) Thanks for that, Junior. I haven't heard from Bryan and Adam for ages - probably since the summer of '69. (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

Re: Brickworld Announcement - Area Attractions and baseball

(...) Although a robot pitcher and robot hitter would be very very kewl, just a robot pitcher and wireless remote control hitter would be very kewl. Like those old baseball machines at the beach. One would have to anticipate the lag and the speed of (...) (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, lugnet.robotics.nxt)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) You missunderstand me, I think. I wouldn't be skipping out because I'm not making a buck. I'm not interested in going to an event to make money, I do it because I love building with LEGO. I would skip out on an event if others were making a (...) (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) While I agree in a capitalist sense, I don't agree in a realistic sense. Perhaps it might help if we weren't talking about BrickFest/BrickWorld per se. Or, perhaps if we were talking about them 10 years in the future. I dunno. Anyway, here's (...) (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) I don't think "bringing a MOC" is a valid argument for being a volunteer unless you have a following of people who and pay to get into events purely to see YOUR art. Which YOU probably do since you're famous. ;) I bring a MOC for display and (...) (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld)

Re: Brickworld Announcement - Area Attractions and baseball

(...) Unfortunately the ultrasonic sensor can't even detect the red and blue balls when stationary. (Unless you're REAL close: within an inch or two.) Their surface doesn't reflect much sound (perhaps something to do with the index of refraction), (...) (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, lugnet.robotics.nxt)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) If it takes knowing where the money goes before you volunteer, then that would be your decision to volunteer or not. Nothing wrong with that at all. What I was saying is that they are not obligated to share that information with anyone. If (...) (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) The fact is the *DO* have to be upfront about it *IF* they want me to pay money to attend the event and how many MOCs they want me to bring. I consider any AFOL bringing a MOC to a public event, where the public is charged admission, a (...) (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)

  Re: BrickWorld 2007 - who's getting paid?

(...) This whole "profit" "non-profit" conversation is a straw man. AFAIK there have never been any "non-profit" organizations putting on LEGO fests. Non-profit is a category of organization with a specific legal status. What this whole thing boils (...) (19 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickworld, FTX)
