Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

"Tobbe Arnesson" <StPnAtM@lotek.nu> wrote in message news:HrIyFx.1DCu@lugnet.com... <snip lots to think about> The only thing about the 16x16 baseplates that bothers me is most of them are in green. It's very hard to get these in gray and somewhat (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.events.brickfest, lugnet.general, lugnet.org.scibrick, lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) Workable, though, as you pointed out below. (...) Cool! (...) I thought it was made of green cheese? (...) I had quite a fun time building this: (URL) (although it's CAD,not ABS) Like the Portable Bot Factory, building in a smaller scale makes (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) How about 16x16 built on a layer of grey bricks? So you have the green baseplate, and put a layer of bricks on that. Then you can move the corridor connections to the baseplate itself and simplify the corridor connections. Adrian (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) I never thought about that, I just selected something and went along... Also, it divides 32x32 evenly, something which is not possible with a 12x12. And there's the 32x32 crater bases too. (...) Too small to make interior details, I think. (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

Jon Palmer wrote in message ... (...) Just cut up a 48x48 baseplate and bingo, you have enough for NINE mini-moonbases! As has been pointed out before, TLC makes smaller baseplates by cutting larger ones, so there's no reason why we shouldn't. Kevin (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) I'm thinking about false perspective, a la Disneyworld (or Flemish painting), with more "distant" modules raised up. A layer or six of gray bricks would be perfect, and yeah, it would hide green quite well. Both a 16x16 and a 12x12 standard (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) I agree with Adrian, 16x16 baseplate with minimum 1-plate thickness in grey (original light grey, not super-terrific schizo grey with hints of gunmetal blue that took away our precious light grey like some cheap floozie). Instead of plates, (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) I agree with Nick and Adrian (with Nick's sugestion about corridor height added). 16x16 with plates on top will make it more accessible to more builders. I haven't built a moonbase module yet, due to lack of time and space; I can hardly wait (...) (20 years ago, 15-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) I think it would work despite the nonabundance of gray 6X12 plates. There are plenty of other ways for making a 12X12 gray plate area. We all have plenty of 4X4's, right? As long as the microbase is able to be picked up all as one solid item (...) (20 years ago, 16-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) As is obvious from our photos of the meeting, we skipped the baseplate all togheter in the layout (for the most part). This worked for our needs but having a plate is better. We didn't even bother connecting all the corridors with pins. Mostly (...) (20 years ago, 16-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) Don't like. I don't wanna break my toys. (...) DIG IT!!! Now THIS I like!!! * You could make anywhere from 1-9 Mini-Mods, or one Mega-Mini-Mod * The baseplate fits right in with the full-size standard * No breaky my baseplate * Only 1 person (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) You have the option not to do so by making super modules. (...) The 48 x 48 baseplate investment should be affordable for most at $10. If you can't afford that then perhaps you should not spend the money to go to a gathering either? Still, (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)

Re: Micro Moonbase Standard (was Re: The Brickfest PDX Moonbase Build Up!)

(...) Or 1/9 of a super module, or anything in between...there are always options. That's what I love about all this! (...) For me, it's not economic so much as personal preference...I can afford the plates, but I don't like the idea of breaking (...) (20 years ago, 20-Jan-04, to lugnet.space)
