I think that the LEGO company is "missing the boat" big time when it comes to promoting the educational value of their product. (...) (23 years ago, 15-Oct-01, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ???...???

(...) YES! YES! YES!!!...!!! and isn't this ironic, people BEGGING a company to let them buy their product....... Ironically, I see a parallel in another hobby. I have a few old convertibles that GM no longer makes parts for. For a while, I'd pay (...) (23 years ago, 15-Oct-01, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.technic)

(...) John... you have a great point here, I agree with you whole-heartedly. (...) Your two paragraphs above make a point that perhaps isn't always easy to see. Let me put it in my own terms and see if we can't get the point across. More than 1/2 of (...) (23 years ago, 14-Oct-01, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.technic)

(...) Me too. (...) Well, you've summed up the argument perfectly in two lines. Maybe though as the Technic brand is being so poorly catered for at the moment we should pitch this as a Mindstorms basic bulk pack. Just changing the name not the (...)   Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ???...???

(...) In the interest's of furthering this intellectual discussion here is my contribution. If we have beams we need connector pegs, luckily lego know how to put a set together(even if they don't have such a great idea of what set's to make). (...) (...)   Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ???...???

(...) I have wished for something like this for a long time as well: it would be really cool to have a separate tub for each colour of technic elements! The vast majority of pieces should be mainly beams, (without overly many small ones) and technic (...) (23 years ago, 14-Oct-01, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.technic)

Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ???...???

(...) I most emphatically did NOT suggest anything regarding a universal set. While I also have more than a few copies of both the 8277 and the sub - and paid an obscene amount for a some large vintage sets, this is NOT what I had in mind. I WANT, (...)   Re: Bulk Sets (was: Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ?)

(...) Bill and Allan I brought that point up with Brad Justus at Brickfest 2001 when I asked about single color 3033's. I, like alot of other people, assumed (never assume) it was a loss leader also. Brad said it "was not a loss leader", however the (...) (23 years ago, 13-Oct-01, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Bulk Sets (was: Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ?)

(...) Sorry... let me rephrase.... There is not $19.95 worth of raw materials, packaging and costs of distribution etc. in that tub. I don't waver from my point. I still don't believe that was a loss leader for LEGO. Regards, Allan (23 years ago, 13-Oct-01, to lugnet.dear-lego)

Re: Bulk Sets (was: Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ?)

(...) I've heard that too, but I suspect they are just talking about production costs. ABS is cheap, and there's no retooling needed to make basic bricks. So from that end it is certainly profitable. But when you include the distribution costs, I'm (...) (23 years ago, 13-Oct-01, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.technic)

Re: Bulk Sets (was: Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ?)

(...) I doubt anything LEGO makes, now or at any time in the past, could be classified a loss leader. There is not $19.99 worth of raw materials and packaging in that tub. (...) I think an argument could be made that it might also be a staple for (...) (23 years ago, 13-Oct-01, to lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.technic)

RE: How about "Technic Tubs" ???...???

(...) Ahhh, the magic Universal Set words have finally been spoken. I have my treasured 8062 in its own Plano 3720 tackle box for short trips....   Tubs [was: Re: How about "Technic Tubs" ???...???]
