The problem with LOTR and Braveheart is how grotesquely violent they were. I mean, would you want your 1- yr old kid buying toys meant for a R-rated movie? Basing it off a book is that it only appeals to fans of the book, which is not a large group (i’ve never read the Pern books, for example).

The problem LOTR, Braveheart and other films is that they are not suitable for Lego, and I don’t mean the Lego Company, I’m talking about us. TLC can make Orcs, Cavalry (Riders of Rohan) troops (Gondor, Irish, Scots, English men-at-arms), etc. I have said it before and will continue to say it, we don’t need a bunch of specialist figs.

Take Star Wars, we can use lots of StormTroopers, Rebels, etc, but how many sets are we going to buy with lots of Yodas and other special types.

In Classic Castle, we never had enough Black Falcons, Crusaders, Crossed Axes, etc, etc, to man the walls. I got into Lego with my boys and we all grew out of them. Years later when I discovered Bricklink (actually BrickBay) and found I could get more troops to man my walls, to man my ships, did I get back into Lego.

The same is true today, TLC is geared to making sets for the younger ages and through them, sell their products for profit. I say ok. But then give us the avenue to buy minifigs and elements in bulk.

Think of it, TLC, if we could buy a bag of 50 torsos in the color we need. Sticker sheets with Black Falcon, Lion, Crusadr, forestmen, Western Cavalry torsos printed on them to build our own needs for minifigs.

Bulk horses, cows, steers and Bufalo for the Western theme. Bulk arms, legs, hips. Bulk swords, muskests, rifles, yes and even pitchforks. Blank shields in the different shapes.

If TLC dosen’t want or can’t get into Castle sets because of a contract with HP, then do small sets revolving around the current CCS, we could use farm animals with green plates, and a few bricks. They have done cats, dogs, spiders, rats, and so on, why not chickens, goats, pigs. These would work out in castle, town, rural area sets.

Give us small cottages, more Minifigs, sets like they used to make such as the Armory, the joust, knight’s procession.

When TLC produced set 6026 King Leo, how many King Leo’s do you need? However, I bought 27 til the stores stopped carrying them. Thanks to Bricklink, I was able to buy helmets and made Knights for the King.

It seems the trend for TLC is large many hundreds of pieces sets with $100.00 plus in cost. Make these sets in smaller sections to add to a bigger set. Did I mention minifigs in sets?

Sorry guys and gals, I didn’t start out to write a book. The point is if we Builders are a small percentage of the big picture, then I ask TLC this. If adults are only 5% of your income, what is that come to, thousands in sales, millions? Are you willing to let this percentage shrink, or are you willing to get us the elements to build and build and...

OK thats my 2.5 cents

(...) -snip- (...) -snip- YES! Don, you nailed it here! I emphatically support this idea TLC. Listen to this man! I just would like to add that some variant heads would not hurt. Hey, how about a MOC "Little Armory" Armory??? How bout it, eh? (...) (21 years ago, 8-Oct-03, to lugnet.castle, FTX)

(...) Although I am sympathetic to the idea of having more generic 'figs in sets, I don't really agree that "we never had enough Black Falcons . . . to man the walls". Looking back, Castle sets over the years have a very high ratio of 'figs and (...) (21 years ago, 9-Oct-03, to lugnet.castle)

(...) I agree with your rant, for the most part. As for the trend, you need to look back to see how TV and media-driven entertainment supplanted other forms of occupying our time over the last 50 years, and how that transformed us into a culture of (...)
