Brett, these are all very good questions.

3) Where are good places to read up on/research good building techniques?

About a year ago I imagined a catalogue of frequently used building ideas,
inspired by C. Alexander's "A Pattern Language".

But right now, the best thing you can probably do is look at a lot of
official Lego instructions in the Lugnet set guide (brickshelf actually).

Ahh, too bad you didn't roll with the idea then, then it'd be all ready for
me now ;)  I had thought of compiling pictures from Lego instructions, but
that big ole problem of Time hits.  Maybe one day I'll be able to!  Between
40 hours of work (well, I never QUITE get in 40 hours, but that's ok) and 9
hours of school (plus more hours of homework) a week, and at LEAST 60 hours
of sleep a week, there just isn't much time left :)

4) Furniture...
You notice Bram Lambrecht's Artist's Studio?

Yes, there are some nice Chair/Table sets there, I will have to give those a
try sometime, but not for the tavern!

Jeff Elliott wanted to gather up this sort of thing once:

Get to work Jeff!

Furniture is one of those building patterns, solutions to common problems
that you can borrow from. It deserves to be highlighted because usually its
gems are hidden inside a big MOC.

I totally agree there.  Sometimes I won't care for a big ole MOC at all, but
then I'll see one really cool Desk in it, or some shelves or something, and
say "Hey, thats neat!"  Of course then I promptly forget the design, or if I
DO remember it at all, I forget where I saw it! :(

I suppose this will be one of those things I shouldn't touch until such a
time as... well, there's time to tackle it!

And yes, baseplate.com sure is an intricate site, nice idea for a tub there too.

plucky (sorry, just used to signing everything OUTSIDE of work this way,
been that way for years, do it on message boards for the online game I play,
etc etc)

(...) While I can't keep it up to date, I actually do have a good start at such a reference. See this page: (URL) for example. I have made some effort to index pictures from MOCs which include interesting details. I would love to find a way to split (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jan-02, to lugnet.castle)
