My apologies. I just looked there more closely and it doesn't seem to answer
anything. To answer what I'm fairly sure of (but far from certain):
I think that the correct lookup order is internal, ., [MODELS], [PARTS]
Yes MPD files must have the file suffix MPD. I'm pretty sure internal models are
encourage to have .LDR while included parts have .DAT
I'm not sure if there is any rule about nested MPDs but I don't think any
software supports them (could be wrong). Personally I wouldn't be averse to
forcing MPDs to be self-contained rather than mixing internal and external
subfiles but that's just my opinion.
