a) Copy RINGx.DAT (x=1,2,3,4,7) to 4-4RINGx and RING10.DAT to 4-4RIN10.DAT,
replacing with ~moved-to files.

I'm not *against* such a change, but I'm not a big supporter of it.

Maybe if we could revive the old primitives committee (you all know who
you are), or if there was another admin for the PT who could oversee
this project, that would be a good thing...

b) Make the PT reject new submissions that use the old names?

I'd rather not start hard-coding the PT with specific names and such.
OTOH, coding it to reject files which reference ~moved-to files is
probably a good thing. :)

c) Automated update of existing (and in review) part files to use new names. I
think these changes would need a cursory review, but not a full review. I think
we've done similar before when we added the neck mark to the minifig torsos.

The neck-mark was done with full review.  And there isn't really any
provision in the PT for a 'shortcut review process'.  Not to say it
couldn't be set up, but it's not built-in.

But a 'full review' for straight-forward changes is not necessarily as
in-depth as a 'full review' for more involved changes.

d) Delete the old files (does the install mechanism allow for this?).

No, the install mechanism doesn't support delete. :(

What we've done in the past is (a) replace the files with 0 DELETE ME
stubs (ie, the new files contained only a single line '0 DELETE ME') and
(b) provide a .BAT file (DOS script) that deletes the old files.

Steve - some judicious use of grep would identify those file containing
ring*.dat but not -4ring*.dat.

Yeah, there's about 190 such files in the official library.  Including
the open-center studs.  I don't think references to ring10 were included
in the grep.
