But you're right about it being better to send as an attachment.
Personally, I like zip files as an attachment.  Those seem to be
pretty secure from handling and transit induced errors.

Besides, I hate having to 'select all', then copy and paste, then trim
excess garbage.  Especially if there are a lot of files.

What is your opinion on getting the part files formatted as
a MPD file (so SplitMPD can remove the "garbage" for you)?

This is not directed specifically at Jacob.  His post just got me
interested in how to make it easy to deal with MPDs sent as attachments
in e-mail.

This is a script that can be inserted in a DOS .BAT file to make it
easier to deal with MPD's in e-mail.  Instructions are included, gratis.

First, the file.  Save the stuff between the lines into SPLITTER.BAT, in
the same directory as splitmpd.exe.  You'll need to change the pathnames
to match your system, of course.

===================================================
@ECHO OFF
ECHO .
ECHO Files contained in %1
find /i "0 FILE " <%1
ECHO .

REM Change to the target directory
C:
CD \LDRAW\MODELS

REM Split the MPD
c:\ldraw\splitmpd <%1

PAUSE
===================================================

Then, go into Explorer (usually, you can click Start|Programs|Explore
Windows).

Click View|Options.  Click the File Types tab.  Click the New Type
button. Enter the following bits:

Description of type: Multi-Part DAT
Associate extension: MPD

Under Actions, Click the New... button.  For action, put Open.  For
Application used to perform action, enter the full path to SPLITTER.BAT.
After it, put a space, then "%1".  Something like this:

   C:\LDRAW\SPLITTER.BAT "%1"

Click OK.

Under Actions, click your new Open action, then click Set Default.

Click OK to save your new file-type.

At this point, you may need to mess with settings in your e-mail
program.  I don't know specifically, because I'm not very familiar with
different e-mail packages.  Lotus Notes e-mail and Outlook Express will
both allow you to split out the contents of any attached MPD's without
any other modifications.
