I have a few of those non-slotted grey track pieces, they came with
<set:4555>
I'm 100% sure those came with that set, they don't match the building
instructions (so the 'evidence' in the thread you mentioned just isn't
really evidence, TLC doesn't redo the instructions every different
production run). I have bought two of those sets in last february and they
both had 'unslotted' track.
The pieces are exactly the same like the straight track from the blue era I
have.

| (...) Fascinating. Idle speculation: ON. Maybe the more modern version of the mold wore out and since they might have been thinking that 4555 (and the WW mine set) were the last sets that would use the part for some period of time, dig out the (...) (24 years ago, 5-Jul-00, to lugnet.cad)

| (...) Yes, I do own two of these parts. There are no slots and no notches at the ends - the under surface has 15 filled studs, just like the underside of a 1xn plate. However, I do not know which set they belong to. I found them in a mixed lot of (...) (24 years ago, 4-Jul-00, to lugnet.cad)
