I appear to have answered my own question, though I don't understand the answer :) It seems that if the part is located in the LDRAW\MODELS directory, the extended face problem exists. If the part is moved into LDRAW\PARTS, however, the problem (...) (22 years ago, 2-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Well, I got tired of opening files with BBEdit and setting the file type to text, so I hacked (and I really mean hacked) together a little Droplet (an AppleScript application that is drag and drop aware) to convert the creator and file types to (...) (22 years ago, 2-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

Happy New Year! It's a few minutes after midnight, ldraw.org server time (ie, GMT). The final parts update for 2002 is now available. This is update 2002-06, a small package of just 54 files.
