Well, let's see, Hmmm, it depends.... I ussually always start with the head.
I like building the head of a new Mech, because at that point I know what
"personallity" the Mech will have, then I start on the Hands. Once the Head
and the hands are completed then I know what sort of scale will be involved
and what kind of joints will be required. So I would say that the hardest
part is: the Torso. Mainly because this is where I gererally have a stand
holding up what I have started and It's kinda like do or die at this point,
you gotta get the torso and abdomen set before you can put it back down
again since there is nothing to hold it up untill you make enough progress.
After the Torso the next hardest part is the hip area. So many different
combinations are possible. Plus this is where the whole balance scheme comes
into play. Since this is a fulcrum point, top VS. bottom weight distribution
is critical.
The only other area that is tough is the ankle and feet. Ankles gotta be
strong and I always spend time making the feet look as good as they can,
mostly to offset the detail in the chest or head, making a good blending.

I seem to always follow the same steps while building a bipedal Mech;

Head
Hands
Arms
Shoulder to Chest
Chest to Abdomen
Abdomen to Back
Back to Pelvis
Pelvis and hip
Then....

Feet to Ankle
Ankle to Knee Joint
Knee Joint to Upper Leg

Then....
Pelvis and Hip to Upper Leg

Then detail to taste.

Cool, I never told anybody this stuff before!

Thanks everybody!!!!!!!

Eric

While building a mech, what is the hardest part for you to make? I always
have tons of trouble making the head look decent and properly proportioned
with the rest of the body. Arms are another one of my weak points. I'd like
to hear what others think.

(...) Wow, that is one heck of an attack plan! But you probably have to have one like that because of the scale you build at. The biggest my mecha ever get is about eight to ten inches, maybe a foot at the very largest. My plan is usually something (...) (23 years ago, 27-May-01, to lugnet.build.mecha)
