Do you build every set you buy? —William R. Ward
Ever since my little-kid days I have always felt a need to build the set using the instructions at least once, even if it's a really dumb one that I just bought for the parts. But lately I've started buying more than one of some sets, and am (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

Re: Do you build every set you buy? —Bryan Beckwith
I have almost the same problem in reverse. Once I've built a set using the instructions, I have a really hard time taking it apart. It will stay assembled for weeks before I can make myself tear it apart. Also, I have an odd compulsion to position (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

Re: Do you build every set you buy? —Brad Hamilton
For me it depends on the set. For sets I really like, I'll build them for a while, but I usually can't wait to cannibalize them for parts. A lot of times, I dislike the set and am just buying it (often many copies) for parts. For example, I have 12 (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

Re: Do you build every set you buy? —Shaun Sullivan
Hmmm, I must confess to the opposite problem - I very rarely build the sets at all, and purchase them for the pieces. The only exceptions from the past 5 years or so have been the first year Star Wars sets and the Life On Mars mechs. The Star Wars (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

(...) I'll build the first time, on the off chance that there's something funky in the design that isn't immediately obvious, but I mostly consider Lego's theme sets to be oddly designed bulk packs. :) James (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

(...) LOL!!! (...) I am the same, although I do have sets I bought for the set itself and not the parts, such as the Millenium Falcon and some recently acquired Classic Space sets.         Re: Do you build every set you buy? —Eric Joslin
(...) Certainly not. In fact, I'm in the same position as you- I used to do it all the time, immediately when I got home, no matter how silly the set was or how much I had just bought it from parts. I would always put at least one copy of the set (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)

To All, (...) Interesting question. I used to build every set I got, for awhile, I think all I got sets for was to build, and that went on through most of my LEGO collecting years, let's say from when I was 4 till at least 16 or 17. When I went to (...) (23 years ago, 29-Mar-01, to lugnet.build)
