Hi Sproat!
Yeah, sorta been quiet for a while.  Guess I've been gone and forgotten.

I saw a video documentary where a large chunk of the leading edge of an A-10
wing ripped off during flight, and dropped straight through the engine.  This
would've killed any other aircraft, but the pilot was able to maintain control
and return to the landing strip.  In the interview the pilot said that, after
he got over the thought that he was going to die, handling the craft was still
pretty easy.

I saw that too.  Forget where.  Might've seen it as a training film for FOD,
or on Discovery channel or something.
The vulture strike wasn't as severe as that, but still pretty bad.
One thing that really amazed me was all the empty space available in the
leading edge of the wing.  It seemed cavernous, with wiring harnesses strung
leisurely between spars. The F-16 wing leading edge on the other hand is
packed. Tighter than 2 pounds of spamcake in a 1 pound tin.  Which makes it
hell to work on.

Dang, they should build 747s like that!  :-,  'Course, if they put such a
massive cannon on the nose of a 747, I'd want to ride up front every time...

I bet.  And they would probably keep having departure delays due to having
some fool out in front of the aircraft with his head stuck up against the the
gun......
:-)

(...) *Almost* forgotten. I was *this* close, too... :-, Just kidding. I've been hearing about your LDraw-admin feats behind-the-scenes, so I figured you'd post again some time soon... Glad to see ya again. Think you'll be putting out new models (...) (24 years ago, 20-Jul-00, to lugnet.build, lugnet.general)
