I take it that the 8437 has the 'Steering gear, type III' from

That makes me wonder which set had the type I?

Why did they make that specialized piece? It seems to me that the
steering system is 'wrong', in the sense that the connection for the
steering arm is further inside the body than the wishbones. That
creates toe-in/toe-out problems when flexing the suspension, doesn't
it?
