LEGO has asked the Ambassadors to gather information for a new Star Wars set.
Please leave your comments/ideas, and we will pass them on to TLG. Thanks.
LEGO Star Wars will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2009. It is been 10
fantastic, very successful years, with great models, and very loyal and engaged
fans. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm throughout all those years ! To
celebrate our anniversary we would like to develop a special Ultimate Collector
model at retail price of around 150 USD/EUR. We would like to get your ideas,
input as to what model would celebrate our anniversary best and express best
LEGO Star Wars values. We are collecting input from different sources including
Lucasfilm team. Therefore we can not commit that any model suggested by fans
will be launched in 2009, if there is an awesome novelty coming out of Lucasfilm
studios. Please share your ideas by answering the following questions:
1. What model do you recommend that LEGO Star Wars launches in October 2009 as
celebration of LEGO Star Wars 10th anniversary?
2. Should it be a model in minifigure scale or a big display model?
3. Which key characters / minifigs should be included if the model is minifigure
scale?
4. What key functions should be included?
Thank you.

I think a Star Wars version of 3723 LEGO
Mini-Figure (retail price $150) would be perfect. A few years ago
LEGO auctioned a similar
statue of Jango Fett.
I dont think you could choose just one character who epitomizes Star Wars, so
you could produce a version for each major character, or provide enough pieces
in the set to let the builder choose which character theyre going to build.

LEGO could include the minifig(s) possible with the sculpture.
If they were to limit the options, would not R2D2 and C3PO be the definitive
Star Wars figs? The Original trilogy was told from their perspective. Lego could
release them as a pair.

Id really still love to see something in the realm of a minifig scale Mos
Eisley Cantina. That would be sweet! The Star Wars line has been so vehicle
based that I would love to see more done with stuff like the Hoth Base, Death
Star, Mos Eisley, Tatooine, etc. A Death Star that hinges open to reveal a
furnished interior would be awesome. Something like this:
More Pics
However, I am envisioning something that would hinge open and close.
And I can always dream for something like these...
Just some thoughts. Id just like to see a really cool base or location set
versus another vehicle or model of a character. The UCS Falcon was awesome, now
we need a UCS style base.

I have 2 suggestions:
1.A Darth Vader bust or sculpture similar in size and price point to the
darth maul bust http://guide.lugnet.com/set/10018
2.A set of 2 smallish sets that together make up the Death Star Detention
Block.
Set 1 contains the elevators and guard station plus the following minifigs:
1 black imperial guy (imperial navy trooper I think, they have a helmet
where the bottom bit is flared outwards at the edge)
1 stormtrooper
Han Solo in stormtrooper outfit
Chewbacca (with handcuffs)
Set 2 contains the corridor and cell plus the following minifigs:
1 stormtrooper
Luke Skywalker in stormtrooper outfit
Princess Leia (with bun hairpiece)
Imperial Probe Droid
and possibly Darth Vader (depending on price)
With this pair of sets, you could re-create any of the scenes featuring the
death star detention block. It could be expanded later on with a third set
featuring the garbage smasher

LEGOLAND Miniland scale. Maybe with a spring suspension on three wheels to give
it a floaty feel. just my 2 cents,

I vividly remember back in 1999 first seeing the LEGO logo for Episode I
(http://www.rebelscum.com/images/legoe1logo.jpg) and being really excited for
the minifigs that looked to be in production. Well forward 10 years and we still
do not have that cool looking Queen Amidala figure with the big wig and red
dress. I know you guys are looking for a UCS style set, and those are awesome in
their own right, but some sort of homage to the great minifigures that were
made, and the several that were never made, would be just awesome. The remaining
bounty hunters, some cantina favorites, jedi council members, clone troopers in
different styles and colors. The list just goes on and on.
Not exactly what you had asked for, but that would be my pick for a 10th
anniversary celebration.

I agree absolutely! Make C3PIO with gold film bricks (theres GOT to be a
solution) and put some electronics in R2 so that his head turns, lights, and he
converses with C3PIO in their classic Laurel and Hardy banter with C3PIO talking
English and R2 beeping and blinking.

Luke's uncle's house. Minifig scale, with lift-off roof and full interior
detail. Since much of it is underground, feel free to surround the bottom
of it with tan BURPs/LURPs to fake the underground aspect. Include the
shop area with a droid in the oil bath if there is budget for it.

If you go with this, then it would be both.

Luke, his aunt and uncle, R2D2 and C3PO.
> 4. What key functions should be included?
Lift-off roof piece(s). Perhaps a winch over the oil bath. UCS models
don't generally have a lot of functionality. I might have bought the
new Millenium Falcon if it had full interior detail.

Id like to see the minifig scale Lars homestead with Luke, Owen, Beru C-3PO,
R2-D2 & 2 Jawas.
The dome home should be big enough to open to show a table (new 4x4 circle
plate) with 3 trans blue cups (for blue milk), white kitchen, a computer,& a
bed, and there should be a water vaporator & a landspeeder outside - all built
on a regular size sand/beige baseplate. Also, 2 yellow radar dish pieces to be
mounted on transparent stalk pieces & a few beige plates to build up a dirt
mound so Luke can watch the two suns set & yearn for adventure.

I think this is a difficult question to answer, as there have been so many great
sets and innovations that have come from the star wars line. Personally I have
really enjoyed many of the sets but I have not displayed any of them mostly due
to there size or shape.
Personally, I would love a color mosaic of one of the various movie posters or
possibly a new image Lucas would provide.

I Think we should have an endor bunker set it ended the starwars series of
movies and it would be a great way to end 10years of starwars lego. ewoks and
rebels in a mini fig size forest scene would be great we all have enough
stormies now days so just bump up the rebel forces numbers and we can add the

Luke and Han in unhelmeted stormtrooper gear, Leia in her Ive just been
probe-droided gown, and Chewie (with manacles still dangling from one wrist).
Of course, there will also need to be an eye-stalked swimmer thing - either a
separate mold or brick built.
Other possible inclusions (see below) include two stormtroopers, C3PO, and R2D2.

4. What key functions should be included?

An overhead slide-type entry. This is where the group jumps in from. If a
small section of the hallway they were in is also added on the outside of the
compactor, there could be a stormtrooper or two included, peering down through
the hole.
Ideally, there could be a small room (underneath the aforementioned hallway
level?) in which R2D2 and C3PO are desperately working on banks of computers.
Simulated Watery Motion. I can picture this done with platforms on fulcrums,
or perhaps a floor of cargo nets with springy standoffs from a baseplate.
Something to give an unsteady floor feeling.
The compactor should then be filled with all sorts of crates, boxes, and the
like. Perhaps some rubbery components that have some squish factor (akin to
the foam blocks from the old Kenner playset)? There needs to be a lower-level
door through which the intrepid adventurers can eventually escape.
Obviously, there must be some compacting mechanism. Heres a perfect
opportunity for a Power Systems tie-in ... include instructions to MOTORIZE the
gruesome compaction system!
Lastly, there needs to be a couch in amongst the trash.

Heres my idea: A playset re-creation of the Death Star trench battle from
Episode IV.
Id love to see two minifig X-wings (Luke and Wedge), with Vaders Tie Fighter,
and a semi-built up trench (read--LOTS of er..new..gray), perhaps with a turret
or two with imperial gunners inside, with a mechanism to launch a
missile/weapons fire. Lastly, you could incorporate a spring-loaded mechanism
(kinda like the LEGO Studios bank breakout) that would cause some of the panels
around the trench to pop and fall off--to simulate dropping the torpedo into the
Death Stars weak spot.
Now, thinking in the $150 range of practical application, that set would
probably exceed $150. If two X-wings arent possible, maybe use one X-Wing,
with Vaders Tie (I dont think an X-wing and Tie fighter have been offered in
one set) or maybe even a Y-Wing. Or maybe scale it down to a microscale
version.
Im about to age myself here--but I recall those Star Wars metal lunch
boxes..who can forget that iconic image of good vs evil in the form of a Tie
fighter chasing an X-Wing?

Id suggest that instead of yet another minifig-based set (which you can do any
time you want), go for something that you otherwise might not do.
The first thing that springs to mind is a sculpture of Darth Vader and Luke
dueling with lightsabers, from Return of the Jedi?

I totally agree with Shaun.
Heres what I wrote on Brothers Brick:
Death Star Playset:
http://www.12back.com/playsets/deathstar.php3
Only better.
Minifig scale with Luke, Leia, Vader, Obi-Wan, Han, Chewie, Stormies and Droids.
I loved playing with that set as a kid.
Then again, after the Lego Cloud City Playset, I dont know if Lego would like
that one.
So, umm.. I guess second choice should be a ship.
Mon Calamari Cruiser? Nah, given the terrible look of the Sith Infiltrator, the
cruiser would probably stink. Besides, I want minifig scale!
Ok, I have it:
Full Chrome version of Queen Amidalas ship. With the queen and her attendants,
and all 4 R2 units.

Do not under any circumstances choose a set with Ewoks.
The Ewok celebration is the anticlimax of Star Wars.
A commemorative set should remind us of all that is good about Star Wars and
Lego.
How about a scene that has not yet been done, with all new figures: the Massassi
Throne Room scene from the end of the original movie. All the major good guy
characters (except Ben Kenobi) would be present in new shiny editions. C3PO
would be extra chrome, everybody (except maybe Chewie) would have medals.
This would not have to be an expensive set, and it would be more of a
collectors item or display piece than a playset.

1. What model do you recommend that LEGO Star Wars launches in October 2009
as celebration of LEGO Star Wars 10th anniversary?

Id certainly buy R2D2/C3PO sculptures, but something more playable might
appeal to a wider audience. Theed palace/throne room or Amidalas starship from
Episode 1 would be good options.
|
2. Should it be a model in minifigure scale or a big display model?
|
Minifig scale.
|
3. Which key characters / minifigs should be included if the model is
minifigure scale?
|
Lego teased us with an Amidala minifig in the logo for the prequel series, but
never delivered, so the queen in royal getup (maybe in more than one outfit?) is
a must. (Were not all boys, after all.) A couple of her attendants, the pilot
(if its the ship), and her bodyguard would be nice additions. PLEASE skip
Jar-Jar. If it were the Theed palace, a couple of Nemoidians would be good, and
Lego hasnt done those yet.
|
4. What key functions should be included?
|
If it the throne room, the hidden pistol would be an obvious choice. Some way to
have Amidalas force zip up the ropes outside the window would be nice. If
done well, the palace might incorporate some nice pieces that would appeal to
castle fans. Think of an open back with a solid/realistic exterior (like the
street-facing sides of Cafe Corner), rather than the open style of construction
in the recent castle sets, Hoth, or Jabbas Palace--these emphasize playability
at the expense of decent-looking models, but I think theres a happy medium to
be found.
In the ship, the cargo bay ramp would definitely need to open/close, and there
should be an accessible cockpit and throne room. Some version of the droid bay
would be great, too, even if its just R2 tucked away in a little spring-loaded
covered chamber so you can pop him out to fix the ship.

Many Star Wars fans have been clamoring for a Queen Amidala mini-fig in one of
her royal outfits for years. This would be an opportunity to make that happen.
I think an all-chrome exterior ship would be great as a way of letting fans know
that this color will still be made available for special occasions, and this
certainly seems to be one of them!
As for action in the set, heres a few suggestions:
-Astromech ready room where R2 awaits his first chance to save the day!
-Removable exterior panel that droids can be positioned around trying to fix the
shield generator while the ship escapes from Naboo.
-Hyperdrive room with removeable hyperdrive engine (since they must replace it
in Episode I while theyre on Tatooine).
-Landing ramp where Qui-Gong Jin and Darth Maul can duel.
-Retractable landing gear.
Mini-figs for the set:
-Queen Amidala in royal robes
-at least one of her clone decoys
-Captain Panaka (I think thats his name)
-Royal starship captain (dont know his name)
-Qui-Gong Jin
-Obi-Wan Kenobi
-R2-D2
-at least one other astromech droid in a color not made yet.
-naked C-3PO?
My too sense!

Thanks, John!
I hope God or TLG or whoever is listening! My reasons are selfish on this one,
as I just LOVE chrome and dont want to see it fade away entirely! The SE Naboo
Starfighter was just so rockingly awesome snazzy-bad with all its chromeness.
Id like to open another box sometime in the future and have it sparkle like
that!

A 9 volt train which has technic wheels and new track geometry with wider radius
curves in original dark grey. Oh and you better put Boba Fett as an engineer
with 200 storm troopers in the coaches.

Further to the idea of doing a Darth Vader sculpture, it could be improved
even further by adding a brick with a button on it (similar to the T-Rex
Roar brick from the R/C T-Rex and the motorcycle engine rev brick from the
motorcycle) that when pressed, made the famous darth vader breath sound effect.

Hahahaha! I've never seen that before. It's so . . . nerdy . . . I love it!

As cool as this would look, I dont think it would go over very well if released
as a set. I got the UCS Naboo Fighter, and even with the limited number of
chrome parts that were in that set, they still had a fair amount of surface
scuffing. How expensive do you think it would be for them to individually bag
all of the medium-to-large parts? I ask because thats what I think would be
required for them to get pristine chrome parts to the end consumer.

Ooh, ooh, ooh! Great idea, only skip the train and the Stormies, and make it a
vignette of Bounty Hunters Row from TESB. And make sure to include the awesome
Cloud City Boba Fett, with the arm/lego deco. For how popular these characters
are, its shocking that weve only seen three of them get produced (if they
ever produce Aurra Sing, theyll even be outnumbered by non-TESB bounty
hunters!).

Heres my idea: A playset re-creation of the Death Star trench battle from
Episode IV.
Id love to see two minifig X-wings (Luke and Wedge), with Vaders Tie
Fighter, and a semi-built up trench (read--LOTS of er..new..gray), perhaps
with a turret or two with imperial gunners inside, with a mechanism to
launch a missile/weapons fire. Lastly, you could incorporate a
spring-loaded mechanism (kinda like the LEGO Studios bank breakout) that
would cause some of the panels around the trench to pop and fall off--to
simulate dropping the torpedo into the Death Stars weak spot.
Now, thinking in the $150 range of practical application, that set would
probably exceed $150. If two X-wings arent possible, maybe use one X-Wing,
with Vaders Tie (I dont think an X-wing and Tie fighter have been offered
in one set) or maybe even a Y-Wing. Or maybe scale it down to a microscale
version.
|
or
Another way to keep it under $150 is make the trench short with Technic bricks
on each end so more than one of the same set can be combined end-to-end, with
instructions showing how to do so.
Maybe scale it (trench and ships) somewhere in between minifig and micro scale,
with minifig pilots. Its just a matter of designing the ships sub-minifig scale
and still look/feel good with minifig pilots. It would still be quite a blay
variety pack.

LEGO has asked the Ambassadors to gather information for a new Star Wars set.
Please leave your comments/ideas, and we will pass them on to TLG. Thanks.
LEGO Star Wars will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2009. It is been 10
fantastic, very successful years, with great models, and very loyal and
engaged fans. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm throughout all those
years ! To celebrate our anniversary we would like to develop a special
Ultimate Collector model at retail price of around 150 USD/EUR. We would like
to get your ideas, input as to what model would celebrate our anniversary
best and express best LEGO Star Wars values. We are collecting input from
different sources including Lucasfilm team. Therefore we can not commit that
any model suggested by fans will be launched in 2009, if there is an awesome
novelty coming out of Lucasfilm studios. Please share your ideas by answering
the following questions:
1. What model do you recommend that LEGO Star Wars launches in October 2009
as celebration of LEGO Star Wars 10th anniversary?
2. Should it be a model in minifigure scale or a big display model?
3. Which key characters / minifigs should be included if the model is
minifigure scale?
4. What key functions should be included?
Thank you.

Two models! USD 150 price range - each.
R2D2 + C3PO. Nothing symbolizes the Star Wars saga better than those two
characters.
Display scale. With sound FX.

Its a long shot and might be hard to pull off as a single kit, but Id like to
see a minifig-scale Order 66 diorama set, with the recreations of the scenes in
Revenge of the Sith where the various Jedi get taken out. Itd be a good
opportunity to have the different Jedi figs which were previously released in
separate kits, along with different clone types, Yoda, Anakin, Chewie, a section
of Kashyyyk (with a holographic Palpatine?), a section of the Temple
(including younglings might be taking things a bit far), Plo Koons jedi
fighter, Felucian plantlife, etc. Order 66 being the pivotal turning point
between the prequels and the original trilogy.
Another idea for a minifig-scale kit (my preferred scale) would be the different
rebel and imperial vehicles together with a section of the Death Star trench
run, or from the Battle of Endor. Both are iconic space battle scenes from the
original trilogy.
I think a display-sized Republic Star Destroyer would be great, and would tie
into the new Clone Wars series. Itd look nice next to the UCS Imperial Star
Destroyer.
