Hm. An interesting Wikipedia entry there... Im kinda disappointed that its
limited to a modern interpretation. Their U.S. Examples omit things Id
consider to be even more closely aligned with their initial definition. Namely:
WPA posters of the 1930s and 1940s. (WPA = Works Progress Administration) Many
are beautifully designed, graphically stark, and pack a punch for sending out
their message. Heh, some of the messages are so obvious they almost seem funny
now. Like:
Form
Orderly Lines,
Build Sand Sculptures,
Eat
Fruit,
Drive Carefully,
Report Dog Bites... Anyway, with my earlier post here, I had been thinking
along these lines rather than the modern media types. (even though I *did*
mention TV and radio...) Im always impressed by those old posters
effectiveness, in eye-catching split-second messages. Ha! I can see it now: a
banner ad picturing Smokey the Bear saying, Only YOU can prevent flame wars!
;-) Humor is always good.
