  Re: Posting via mail

(...) Oh -- d'Oh -- well, OK, we could make lugnet.db into a group. Would you find that useful for discussing database things? (23 years ago, 19-Apr-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

  Re: Posting via mail

(...) The "database" group? Excuse my ignorance, but which group would that be? If I read my groupinfo correctly, the is no "parent" group to lugnet.db.* (no group lugnet.db): ht@katzenminze%pts/4 (20:43) ~ > telnet news.lugnet.com nntp Trying (...) (23 years ago, 19-Apr-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

(...) How true that is! You are so correct. In fact... I'm not using a newsreader at all. I use the web interface exclusively. (...) Check here: (URL) on reading it, does seem to imply that it doesn't work "everywhere" only on the top level group. I (...) (23 years ago, 19-Apr-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: a thought about brickbay update postings

(...) The web interface does have group skip filters. The groups are not coalesced for NNTP. (23 years ago, 19-Apr-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: a thought about brickbay update postings

(...) Not everyone uses the same newsreader that you do. The filtering capabilities of various programs varies a lot, and the web interface has no such filters, AFAIK. Amy (23 years ago, 19-Apr-01, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Since there *is no* top level market group (in the "newsgroup sense") but it is just a virtual group that is an agglomeration of the lower level groups in the market hierarchy... all you need to do is set your skip filter settings to skip (...)   Posting via mail

(...) It is possible to post via the mailing list version -- there's a two-way SMTP<=>NNTP gateway. However, this only works if you are subscribed for instant delivery (i.e., not digests). (...)   Reply-To setting in mailing lists

(...) Chris, The quick answer is that the list software you're using is called "ezmlm" (URL). A more complete answer, however, is that you're actually on a pure- mailing-list half of a bidirectional mailing-list-to-newsgroup gateway. That is, some (...)   REQ: Restructuring loc.de.* newsgroups

  Problem with flags in Pine

Over the past few days, in at least two groups (.db.inv and .market.theory), I've noticed that when I leave messages undeleted, but read (that is, not flagged "new" by Pine) and then come back to the group later, they are flagged as "new". Bryan's right; it was a user error on my part. I had right-clicked on each news group and selected 'Catch Up', which acted as if I had once downloaded and later deleted all postings.
