G'day,

I just got an e-mail from Mark Harrison, in which he informed me that he is
unable to post anywhere in lugnet [including the Australian section], and I

As far as I'm aware, he is still able to post to lugnet.market.* and
lugnet.admin.* groups.

was wondering
1) What was the reason(s) [if any] behind this blanket ban on his posting

See:  http://www.lugnet.com/loc/au/?n=486

Mark broke (several times, and was issued several warnings) an agreement that
he agreed to, namely that he (like everyone else here) would not post auction
announcements or updates in the wrong place.

2) When will he be able to resume posting on lugnet in general

When he can give some very solid assurance that he can learn to abide the
same rules here that everyone else does?

(Either that or when/if the rules change/bend to allow auction flogs in
certain other areas.)

3) While the ban is in force on lugnet,

Hmm, it's not really a "ban."  He broke a sacred rule here, several times,
and, basically, he's been kicked off (more or less) for being extremely
disrespectful of some very simple and reasonable rules.

would his posting privileges be
returned to the .loc.au forum, as he is a very helpful and informative
member of our community.

Well, as it turns out, ironically, .loc.au is where the last straw actually
broke the camel's back.

I have no problems with Mark being here as long as he respects the rules.

I'd also like to ask all members of lugnet who have benefitted from
information/advice provided by Mark and those who would like to see his
return to add their support to this posting.

Is there anyone who would "vouch" for Mark and be willing to take a fall with
him if he had his posting privileges restored but subsequently botched things
again later?  I suspect he would be much less eager to push the boundaries
and see what he could get away with if he knew someone else would be taken
down with him.  (Just a thought.)  Again, I have no problem with Mark's
posting anywhere if he simply is willing to play fair.  In the collective
group of .loc.au, for example, can somehow convince Mark to clean up his act,
by all means do try to convince him it would be worth his while.

Write me when you've (collectively) decided that you (as a group) feel assured
that Mark can and will play fair (by the rules) and I'll turn his posting
privileges back on, based on your good word as a group.

(...) I'm pretty surprised you even wrote this, to be honest. Mark's proven to you and others he doesn't feel he has to follow the rules, even if he's warned that not following them will get him kicked out of here. That someone else would be silly (...) (24 years ago, 1-Jun-00, to lugnet.loc.au)
