@all,
I have identified a substantial increase of Spam to the mail-gateway, which
basically resulted in an "overfull" queue of deferred bounces (the mail gateway
does send a response to the original sender if for any reasons it cannot accept
a message).
This may ultimately lead to the situation, that the wanted replies to valid
posters (like authentication requests and such) have to line in with the large
queue.
If what you are seeing is not the time you _receive_ the authentication request,
but the time the server actually _sent_ it, this would mean the incoming mail
queue was cluttered as well - this positively should not be the case, however
when I just tested it, I could not verify any such behavior, so it appears to be
okay on that side.
That said, I have now installed a script that will on a daily basis clean out
the cluttered deferred queue, taking care that undeliverable mail bounces will
no longer keep you waiting for your server feedback mails. I figure that should
bring things back to normal.
If you still experience unwanted behavior, please do not hesitate to post it
here - I am monitoring this group, so I can react to new issues fairly quickly.
Have fun,
Jerry
