| Hi, I use Virtual Access to retrieve newsgroups. I've set it to retrieve all messages in about 12 groups on lugnet.com. It usually times out and has to be run again. It took 6 passes to get all 80 some messages tonight in all those groups. I follow (...) (25 years ago, 9-Sep-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

| | Limiting quotations?
|
| Todd: Would it make sense (and not be too hard) to prevent people from including trailing (and thus uncommented) quotations? I would implement it by checking if the last non-empty line starts with a quotation marker (>). Play well, Jacob ---...--- (...) (25 years ago, 6-Sep-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

| | What has caused .announce to drift?
|
| Boy, was I surprised to see the post tonight that Chet C. made to .announce about the TLG press release. It's ironic because I had just been talking with Jason S. earlier today about how the .announce group had drifted away from its original dual (...) | (...) [Scheme for enforcing threads snipped] I *only* use email to interact with this community. Why? I don't like any newsreaders I've used and I'm not sure I'll see everything on the website. However, my mail program (mutt, see (URL) works just (...) (25 years ago, 1-Sep-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

| (...) If you want the flexibility of downloading the posts to read, then reply offline, why not just use a news reader? Any number of them would let you do exactly what you want to do via your e-mail reader. (25 years ago, 1-Sep-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

| I disagree with breaking down the auction and trade groups further - although I know I only am looking for a few things, I think that breaking them down and making them easier to use _might_ squelch momentum. Secretly, however, I have another (...) (26 years ago, 18-Oct-98, to lugnet.admin.general)

Nobody really thinks typing a few extra characters manually at the end of a post or e-mail makes the thing any more or less personal, do they? It really ISN'T like signing a (...) | (...) point releases generally don't add much functionality. I'm running 4.04 and easily generate the below, so certainly 4.03 has the capability as well, when used to do news or mail. So maybe there's another reason? But like I said, sigs are small (...) (25 years ago, 18-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)

| I agree with Larry P. on the signature issue - it IS nice to have, but I'm not sure it's super-useful, at least when using the web interface to read LUGNET. I ususally don't put a full signature on messages... just my name and sometimes a comment. (...) (25 years ago, 18-Aug-99, to lugnet.admin.general)
