There is also no reason to even think about requiring that, is there?
Nobody really thinks typing a few extra characters manually at the end
of a post or e-mail makes the thing any more or less personal, do
they? It really ISN'T like signing a letter.
When I write a letter, well, no, when I print out a letter I usually
sign it at the bottom in a fairly interesting way. That's unique,
that's a signature. I don't manually type my name at the end of an
e-mail message (my reader inserts my name and e-mail address for me)
normally. I don't feel like I'm leaving anthing out, either.
This whole signature business is one of the most silly things I've
seen people try to pin on JW. Pin the legitimate things on him if you
want (and I do) but this is really pointless. Even if it weren't
totally pointless, the typical geek-oriented "hey, even if it's a lab
and it's locked down you could bring your bookmarks in on a floppy if
they're using 4.0x or higher" is downright hillarious.
He said it wasn't his machine and he said the owner (maybe the school
- maybe a roommate, who knows) doesn't want him to or has made it
impossible for him to do something that, in reality, is meaningless.
We know the posts are from JW without a little --JW at the end.
