Re: Change in LUGNET news appearance

(...) You are absolutely right - you should not be seeing the alert message and you should not have to authenticate posts or even enter your name and email address with every new post. It is possible that your browser has the wrong cookie settings (...) (19 years ago, 13-Dec-07, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: No authentication posts, no posts from the newsreader?

I think it makes sense to post a small update on this issue: As a matter of fact, email is running fine since the discovery of the "hang" some days ago. We have a comprehensive warning and traffic management mechanism in place so we should not run (...) (19 years ago, 13-Dec-07, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Change in LUGNET news appearance

Hi Gabriele, let me see if I'm getting you correctly: You would like to skip the "Make yourself familiar..." blurb and have your personal info filled in automatically when posting. This is exactly what posting as a registered user is all about (in (...) (19 years ago, 13-Dec-07, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Change in LUGNET news appearance

Hi all, in the next couple of days, you may notice some changes in the appearance of LUGNET news web pages. These changes are basically a testing scenario and will have the following impact: As long as you are visiting LUGNET news web pages (...) (19 years ago, 13-Dec-07, to lugnet.announce) !

  Server Outage today

Dear all, the main LUGNET server encountered an outage today, caused by a power supply failure and subsequent system recovery. As I am writing this, everything is back to normal and no data have been lost in the process. I apologize for any (...) (19 years ago, 13-Dec-07, to lugnet.announce)

  Re: Serious E-mail issue resolved

Hi again, this is to inform you that the mail system status is back to normal, remaining backlog being at approx. 100-120 messages which is the normal level we get with all the incoming spam. I have changed spam handling to the point that spam is (...) (19 years ago, 14-Nov-07, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Re: Serious E-mail issue resolved

Since I think you may all want an update on this: While the mail server is actually done with working through the large backlog of incoming and outgoing mails, there are now some 15,000 mails waiting to be checked for spam and then processed by the (...)   Serious E-mail issue resolved

@ll, I am very sorry that apparently a serious issue with LUGNET's e-mail service went unnoticed for a couple of days. This resulted in a backlog of some 16,000 messages that went unprocessed plus several thousand e-mails that were not sent out. The (...) (19 years ago, 14-Nov-07, to lugnet.announce)

Hi Willy, I am so sorry - apparently we had a severe problem in the mail system that went unnoticed (I really was knee-deep in a number of issues and did not suspect anything to be wrong, let alone the warning system to actually misinterpret (...)   Change in email handling policy for LUGNET

@all, the recent dramatic surge in spam attacks against the LUGNET server has called for drastic measures. I have implemented a new access control mechanism for email delivery. Since the old mechanism was fairly open, it is now possible that a few (...) (19 years ago, 24-Aug-07, to lugnet.announce) !

Re: Long delay between email post and authentication request

@all, I have dug into the issue a bit more, and having spent the last 2 hours or so working through the mail queues, I have found that the mail gateway for LUGNET news is currently being drowned in spam to invalid addresses. The active queue is now (...) (19 years ago, 23-Aug-07, to lugnet.admin.general)
