Re: Long delay between email post and authentication request

@all, I have dug into the issue a bit more, and having spent the last 2 hours or so working through the mail queues, I have found that the mail gateway for LUGNET news is currently being drowned in spam to invalid addresses. The active queue is now (...) (17 years ago, 23-Aug-07, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: Long delay between email post and authentication request

(...) @all, I have identified a substantial increase of Spam to the mail-gateway, which basically resulted in an "overfull" queue of deferred bounces (the mail gateway does send a response to the original sender if for any reasons it cannot accept a (...) (...) Hi Tim, I have yet to figure out what went wrong - haven't seen this happening in a loooong time. Thanks for pointing me to this issue, Jerry (17 years ago, 3-Jul-07, to lugnet.admin.general)

(...) Yep, they are - and interestingly enough TLC's nightmare is proven true again: The talk is about giving the creatures "Legos" to play with. But after learning recently, that even pigs require more sophisticated toys than iron chains and old (...) (17 years ago, 27-Jun-07, to lugnet.general)

  Server Outage Today

Hi all, unfortunately we encountered a RAID failure on the LUGNET server today, and while this was expected to be a minor malfunction of a single disk, the replacement proved slightly more complicated than we anticipated. Nevertheless the only harm (...) (17 years ago, 26-Jun-07, to lugnet.announce)

Re: Getting Error on Lugnet Main Page

(...) It actually is the cause of the error, as the quotes are not correctly escaped by one of the scripts - I'd've fixed it already but I'm on a business trip currently. I think the workaround does the trick for now, and a permanent fix will be put (...) (17 years ago, 14-Jun-07, to lugnet.admin.general)

Re: How much of LUGNET is indexed by Google?

Actually, with the old server I think a lot of LUGNET's pages were set to "NOINDEX" due to server load concerns. When René and I took over, we opened up basically everything including images for indexing by search engines, in the first couple of (...) (17 years ago, 14-Jun-07, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Server outages May 5-6, 2007

Hi all, just a quick note on what was up yesterday and today w/regard to LUGNET being temporarily offline: Our main server developed a mainboard and CPU fault which took the system down several times until we realized that it really was a hardware (...)   Re: Column for intersecting ribs

Hi Erik, while I appreciate the creativeness of that idea, I can't help but wonder why you wouldn't just start with "ribbed" columns (i.e. making the entire column cross-shaped to give the ribbed impression you find with a lot of buildings of that (...)   Re: Custom sensors on the cybermaster

(...) Oops, I didn't realize that. In that case it might be perfectly allright with me, because I will need to set the light sensor against a dedicated light source anyway. Sensitivity would be just sufficient in that case, I guess. Thanks Jürgen, (...) (18 years ago, 1-Dec-06, to lugnet.robotics.cybermaster)

Re: Custom sensors on the cybermaster

(...) Good I found this post today - I was just about to fool around w/ one of my spare cybermasters and hook up the RIS light sensors to it. So that's obviously a useless attempt, as the active sensors won't do a thing. Which in turn means that in (...) (18 years ago, 28-Nov-06, to lugnet.robotics.cybermaster)

  Re: Message indexing awry?

  MacNQC on Intel anyone?

  Re: Message indexing awry?

  Re: Address munge and Google...

Sorry I didn't notice this sooner: (...) No. The e-mail addresses that get "spam-me-notted" (should consider trademarking this ;-) ) are those that come from the news headers. You can't reliably identify e-mail addresses in the body of messages, so (...) (18 years ago, 27-Nov-06, to lugnet.admin.nntp)

Re: Why do pictures in the guide detect as banner adds to Zone Labs/Check Point Integrity

(...) It could be that there are settings for ZA that make it quite touchy when it comes to image links. This would block quite a number of useful web links however, so it's probably a setting you do not want in the first place. Just btw., even (...) (18 years ago, 6-Sep-06, to lugnet.admin.general)

  Posting difficulties - sorry...

Re: Why do pictures in the guide detect as banner adds to Zone Labs/Check Point Integrity

There may be a simple explanation for that, although I would rate ZoneLabs as pretty pedantic if this should prove true: Due to a severe issue with a script that generates the guide thumbnail images, I have replaced that script by a solution using (...)
