the recent dramatic surge in spam attacks against the LUGNET server has called
for drastic measures.
I have implemented a new access control mechanism for email delivery. Since the
old mechanism was fairly open, it is now possible that a few of you experience
issues with emails sent to addresses at lugnet.com, although the risk of this
actually happening should be very small.
If you experience such behavior from the server, please notify René or myself
using the admin email addresses accessible on this site. We will then try to
resolve the issue promptly.
I expect we will now reach a state where response times to news posts via email
and the corresponding authentication requests will return to an acceptable
level. Plus, spammers may eventually lose interest in LUGNET if they realize
their attempts cannot even slow down the server anymore.
