  Re: Malloc

8K might be all that IC allows for user global data. The memory map can be rearranged, but only at the compile-time of the IC application. Newton Labs should be able to give you a definitive answer about the memory organization of IC 3.1. -Fred In (...) (28 years ago, 12-Jul-96, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

you easily could have blown chips if the vreg was shorted. then you're putting the direct batt voltage into the chips. just about any chip could be blown. sorry for the bad news! i'd try ordering the socketed parts from jameco and swap chips. fred (...)   Re: Infrared Optosensors

1/2" is actually pretty good range for a basic reflectance sensor. try using them in the analog inputs -- you should get readings that let you read out to about 1". to get better than that, you need a modulated signal, like Pandit has described. just to add a bit, the chips that can be bad if you can't bootstrap are the 6811, the RAM, the 'hc04, and the soldered-down 'hc373. If you have any easy way of swapping first 3 of these 4 these chips, try it. Fred (...) ? (...) co (...) (27 years ago, 30-Oct-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

It sounds like you have some kind of short in your L293B/D circuit. Do you have any single chips you can try separately? This method of stacking chips does often work, but you might have blown one, and then the two of them are fighting each other. (...) (27 years ago, 14-Jun-97, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

yes, RP4 is four isolated resistors, and this being part of the serial line circuit, definitely explains your problem if you are using the common-terminal style. you can just install four 1K resistors if you don't have the correct r-pack handy. fred (...) I have an old 'wall wart' lying around. It has a rating of (12 vdc 1 amp output). i was wondering if i can use it on the handy board. the specs i read about the handy board call for a 12v 500mAmp output. any response would be appreciated.
