| | Why Gary cannot go to Legoland.
|
| I mentioned this in another post this week, but I think that I cannot go to a Legoland until TLC/LD starts selling bulk parts in off colors (light blue, etc). It has been mentioned many times that some folks have gone to a Legoland park and seen all (...) (24 years ago, 27-Apr-01, to lugnet.general)

| Richard: (...) This turns out to be mostly not true. You can indeed date bricks, not precisely to the day they were molded but the more common elements have went through many variations. Ask Gary Istok, one of the experts in this area, or root (...) (24 years ago, 27-Jul-00, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.general)

|
| (...) Well I'm going to put in my 2 cents worth, and say emphatically that there are lots of parts in colors that I have never seen in any set before, especially things that haven't been around for a long time. I remember seeing a Lego model of the (...) (24 years ago, 11-May-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.legoland)

| (...) I'll bet that the corner slopes were nixed by that fellow in Billund that controls the colors that Lego parts can be produced in (the Lego Color Master). I don't know his title or name, but the Lego folks are not at liberty to talk about him. (...) (24 years ago, 16-May-01, to lugnet.general)

| | Re: Sopwith Camel (#3451) shipped...
|
| The reason this set was a "sculpture" instead of a "model team" set is because sculptures are under the "Lego Direct" umbrella, and therefore have some immunity from that dastardly fellow in Billund that controls the colors that can be used for any (...) | No this is no joke. If it were, it would be no laughing matter. I don't want to get everyone into an uproar here, but let me put it this way..... if it were up to Lego Direct, they would sell us any part in any color, more than likely. But yes, (...) (24 years ago, 17-May-01, to lugnet.general)

| I cannot agree with you more Fredrik! The Thatcher Perkins (#396) is IMHO the most beautiful model set Lego ever made. And I too like the Sopwith Camel, even though I am no model airplane fan. Hoping for new greatness from Lego Direct! Gary Istok (...) (23 years ago, 18-May-01, to lugnet.general)

| (...) I think what you mean here is that until The LEGO Group redefines "play value" to what you want it to mean, or what you think it means, they have not recognized the importance of play value. But play value is all TLG talks about. Read their (...) (24 years ago, 9-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

|
| (...) Good Answer Clark!!! These 1x1 round bricks with Esso labels are NOT the same as those shown in the Ultimate Lego Book. The ULB picture shows a 1:43 scale truck, one of many that Lego sold in the 1950's, but they were larger than the 1:87 cars (...) (23 years ago, 21-May-01, to lugnet.general)

| | Re: Classic - what makes a set a classic?
|
| (...) I sort of agree with you Kyle, because I consider classic TOWN to be the era from 1955-1965, when it first came out. But the 1955-57 era is sort of pre-classic, in the sense that the bricks didn't have the binding tubes underneath until 1958. (...) (23 years ago, 24-May-01, to lugnet.general)
