For all of you dying to know how the new trains are packaged, here are a few
photos of the contents.

It's not the speed of UPS that's impressed me, it's the speed with which
Lawrence got the photos up on his website!!! How'd you do that? I'd love to
know what camera you used.

Judging by the instruction booklet and the label on the side of the box, it
seems to me (I'm only guessing at this stage) that despite the design
differences (with tender: egress at rear/without tender: coalbox at rear,
egress at sides) the two large trains are made from the same kit.

The only difference is that the one with the tender has (obviously) the
extra base and tender parts.

To my mind this gives the builder quite a bit more flexibility over how they
construct their engine than I had first thought - closer to what Lego
describe as 'build your own custom loco'. I'm assuming that the same is true
for the smaller engines.

I'm really looking forward to getting mine now :)

Cheers,
Paul.

(...) Isn't it as likely that the tender uses some pieces from the base kit (either 3740 or 3741), and some pieces from the tender kit (3742) are used in the modified engine? Steve (23 years ago, 25-Apr-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.uk)
