Re: push trains (was Re: 12V to 9V - why the switch)

(...) Yes exactly like 7715, which was the only set I could afford as a kid, but with the advantage that you wouldn't need to buy electrical rails to electrify it tim (19 years ago, 18-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: 12V compatible with 9V

Yes, it is. The 12V guage is the same as the 9V and even the motors are the same size, so you shouldn't have any problems running the 7745 on 9V track with a 9V motor. But, if you are getting 12V track with the train, try running the train on 12V (...) (25 years ago, 13-Apr-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 9V Train Motor Being Discontinued?

(...) Well, this is an interesting question that is distilled into the LTC vs LUG debate. I think that there are distinctions between the two. The TCLTC's motto is that our layout is simply a background for our trains. Without the trains, the whole (...) (19 years ago, 27-Mar-06, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Is 12v compatible with 9v???

(...) Yes and no. You have to file down some plastic on the inside of the 12v electrified rails to get them to snap onto the 9v tracks. Also, the wheels on the 12v trains knock against the 9v power supply bricks, and can eventually knock the 9v (...) (22 years ago, 15-Aug-02, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: 12V to 9V

(...) If you mean "can 12V motors be modified to run on 9V track?"[1] Then I'd say yes and no. "No" because 9V motors pickup the power from the rails it run on. The 12V motor doesn't have metal wheels to pickup power so you would have to modify the (...) (23 years ago, 16-Oct-01, to lugnet.trains)

(...) For 1980s 12v, the answer is "mostly". The 9v train motor has the same form factor as the 1980s 12v train motor. However, you will not be able to use the side rods, or the 3rd set of wheels (actually, I did pop a 3rd set of wheels into a 9v (...) (23 years ago, 15-Oct-01, to lugnet.trains)

Missing R/C Trains on Lego.com and AFOL "Dream Train Set"

Happy Holidays Everyone, Does anyone know what is going on with the R/C trains (7898& 7897) on LEGO.com? If you do a search for trains there is no mention of the R/C trains. You can only find them if you know the correct set number or search using (...) (18 years ago, 26-Dec-06, to lugnet.trains)

(...) I think I would remain active in Lego Trains. Whether or not I stayed with 9V or converted to the putative new system depends on the details. (...) K. I'll add what I know about it here. Lego went towards 9V starting with the light and sound modules. (I think they were introduced in 1987 or 8). (...) I just tried this out on my basement layout. The short answer is no.
