I wonder if we'll ever see Kadee couplers made specially for LEGO
trains?

That'd be great, Frank!
I generated a few flimsy Kadee/LEGO conversion prototypes, but I need to beef
them up before they withstand contant use.  My kids destroy them in no time,
and thus function as excellent beta testers for my designs.

I never thought of asking Kadee directly for such a conversion kit - I'll • have
to give them a try.  They certainly knew what I wanted their short O scale
couplers for when I ordered them.  Maybe they can do it for us?  Until then,
I'd love to get a production run of these converted couplers out to whoever
wanted them in the LEGO train community.

hmmm....
Ed

The Kadee couplers I modified to use on my LEGO train layout worked
perfectly. I never had a Kadee coupler break off from the bricks it
was attached to, even when coupling very hard to the car, nor did I
ever experience any coupler problems when pulling trains 10 cars long.
While I have removed some of the pictures on my train page, there is
still enough technical information on my Kadee/LEGO conversion at this
page:

http://members.aol.com/regult/operation.html

I was nearly ready to take down this part of my site to make more room
for my other creations, but for now, its still around.

Jeff -
That's a very good reference page - please leave it intact a little while
longer.  Great photography to catch those details.
A few questions, if I may...

1. I used the same Kadee couplers you did, and glued them on center to two 2x2
plates as well.  However, I found that the gearbox cover of the coupler would
not stay firmly attached as a unit.  Did you glue these gearbox covers in place
first, then glue the whole assembly?

2. I used only one magnet on the tracks.  Is there a significant difference
with using two?  I shyed away from cutting the tracks, and wanted a more
portable solution.  I attached the steel intensifying plate to two 2x2 tiles,
and the uncoupler magnet floats on top of that assembly.

3. What type of glue did you use?  Are there mechanical attachment alternatives
you can recommend?

Thanks,
Ed
