  Coal Process Plant

Here are some pictures of my Coal process plant. Still a work in progress. I'm looking to make the feed from ground level to the second floor motorized. (URL) is welcome. jrosco@yahoo.com (25 years ago, 3-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

Jim, First of all, let me congradulate you on a well built model!. Are you intending to load the hoppers from this tipple? If so, how are you planning to meter in the coal so that you get about the same fill every time? Curious, because I have built (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Coal Process Plant

James, Thanks! The tripple loads the hoppers by moving back and opening the trap door. I'm planing on automating the pickup and delivery. I was thinking of putting a sensor in the cart at the top so when it is full it whould stop and only start when (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Lets put it this way, there are -many- different ways for it to go wrong :) I have a working unloader, rotary type, with mindstorms controlling it. I really must try and finish the program, then video it in action. 5 Pnumatic cylinders, 1 (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Coal Process Plant

(...) Jim, I concurr with others' opinions - nice job on the design of the structure. I'm curious on how you managed the black crossbream effect on the front of the plant. By the way, I noticed Learningsmith (at least in my area) has Mindstorms kits (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Coal Process Plant

This says Kentucky/West Virginia to me in a major way. Very nice. Why black, though? Dark or light grey seems more the color. All you need is some triple rear axle dump truck with sideboard extenders hauling butt down a hill to dump into the tipple, (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Coal Process Plant

PS, that blue and white engine says MP15AC to me for some reason... It's not quite an SW. PPS you need bigger hoppers. (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) I'm betting 2finger/3finger 1x2 plate hinges. One cross brace seems in front of the other. The way I did the GMLTC coaling station uses those bracing rods (in red in the newer shuttle pad) for this. (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Larry, You are correct. 2finger/3finger 1x2 plate hinges. One cross brace is in front of the other. (...) I would have preferred to do in Dark Gray but I don't have that many Dark Gray or Light Gray brick to compete a model of this size. (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

(...) the (...) Thanks for the insight, Larry. Mind mind is definitely drifting toward the same bracing rods you speak of, but in black, as from the Outback Airstrip. I think the super low slope roof bricks from that set would add a nice dark grey (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Coal Process Plant

(...) Yes. Conan has a bunch of those in grey from somewhere so I used them both in the water tower and the coaling tower. I DID use the 2x2x5 lattice columns in my sanding tower. from Paul Foster's page of pics: (URL) one shows my coaling tower (on (...) (25 years ago, 5-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Coal Process Plant

(...) Ahh-thanks for the point, Frank, and once again Larry. I was confused. When I revisited those pictures my mind was cleared up. I've got 2x2x5 black lattivce pieces and some 1x8 technic linkage plates (with holes at each end) right here in (...) (25 years ago, 6-Dec-99, to lugnet.trains)
