Excuse me, but why would TLC owe you anything? Double crossovers have IRL
existed for well over 100 years...
The new LEGO version is even vastly different from your type, since it only
has 2 levers instead of 4. So I don't see any reason why you could in any
way be offended by this, it's a different concept.
As for why LEGO didn't do an earlier version, I think the only reason they
have never done a 9V one is because the electrics are too complicated for
kids (you'll most likely need more than one controller, make sections of
track electrically insulated, have switches to control those sections etc
etc) to be useful. Just look at the model railroaders... Peco for instance
has these things, but the diagrams to hook it up properly are already a
stumbling block for many people not too familiar with electrics, let alone
kids. (at least if you'd want to use them as the Dutch Railways do IRL)
