After looking at the pictures it got me thinking. If you had two main lines and
ran the trains in the same direction. One train would jump to the other main
line. As the track only has one toggle for two switches on each end. Thus
causing one switch to be open and the other closed. Unless there is a dead spot
allowing for the switch to be open on both tracks. It would be nice to have
separate toggles for each switch.

Thanks Dave, that hadn't occurred to me. My first thought was, "Cool,
you only have to worry about setting one switch", rather than, "Huh, you
can't set each switch independently." Actually, my first thought was
"Pussbucket! We're never going to get that piece."

the back switch is set to center. so it looks as if you have nothing to worry
about.

If you zoom in on the image, you can see the switch is leaning to the left. I
would like to hope there is a center position, but I think LEGO® may have over
looked that.

(...) If that is truly the case and they did over look it, I have already figured out how to fix the issue with out changing the exterior appearance of the part. If I do end up having to mod this thing, I will post instructions I promise you. ondrew (18 years ago, 6-Jan-07, to lugnet.trains)
