Paul,
The bufferless version uses 2x3 plate with hole
http://media.peeron.com/ldraw/images/7/3176.png
and when installed the right way the distance between cars and height of
the magnet off the track is the same as a buffered version.
I also haven't figured out which I like better. I know the unbuffered
version is more prototypical for American rolling stock, but in the
absence of other detailing I find the trucks a bit plain.
With regard to including the 2x3 plates with the buffered version...
hmm, that is a good idea, but I feel weird about including pieces that
wouldn't be used.

You know, I don't know what to do either. I know that LEGO has said in
the past that they would like to be able to give credit/rewards to
designers (they aren't currently as far as I know) but I have no idea
how they would deal with derivative works. In the end, I guess I have to
go with an "open source" model. If you think you have made an
improvement that other people will really like, then share it.
Weird, they are both suddenly unavailable... :? I am almost certain that
they were available before. I going to have to figure this one out.
Sincerely,
Chris

| (...) Chris, Once again, very nice! And 6-wide, too! I'm currently working on converting your 8-wide boxcar to 6-wide (1). With these hoppers and that conversion I should be able to make a pretty cool freight train for my BNSF loc and TTX cars (if I (...) (18 years ago, 2-Jun-06, to lugnet.trains)
