Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Paul Janssen
We forgot to take clear pictures of them at our last show, but here is a preview: (URL) As you can see, we used a custom modified switch (by Joe), of which the off-leg equals 1 curved track. This can save a lot of space, and makes turns off of a (...) (20 years ago, 19-Mar-04, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

I love those flanges on that steamer! I've been trying to aqcuire some for a while now. I didn't know there were 2 sizes!?! -brickmodder (20 years ago, 19-Mar-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Joseph Woolley
I think we determined that the derail was caused the wheels being a little too close together. Even with the large flanges, the steam engine would traverse the switch, if a small washer were used to keep the big wheels a bit farther apart. Also, one (...)          Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Paul Janssen
(...) That's right, without extra washer it is too tight. so, one could either modify the switch, but easier would be the use of washers (or if big wheels are used on an axle, make it a bit more roomier. (...) oops, yup, that is right. when (...) (20 years ago, 19-Mar-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Paul Janssen
(...) I didn't make them, but another member of our club, Joe, did. I believe he got the design from someone else that posted the design either here or on brickshelf. How to actually make thenm I do not know, it does involde cutting, glueing, and (...) (20 years ago, 5-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —David Koudys
(...) <snip> I was directly inspired by this thread to make my own-- (URL) had thought about doing this a long time ago but never really bothered until I saw that someone else had done it. I mentioned to the rtlToronto'ers that if they want similar (...) (20 years ago, 5-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —David Koudys
<snip> (...) As promised-- (URL) was that fun. I woldn't want to do it everyday, but for the cost of 2 curve track pieces and 1 switch, it wasn't so bad... The possibilities continue Dave K (20 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Mark Riley
(...) Great mods, Dave! I can just imagine the wonderful smell of all that freshly sawed ABS permeating your basement... :-) I had a question: I've nevered worked with hot glue before, how well would you say it grips the ABS? Thanks, Mark (20 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Joseph Woolley
(...) I have not tried the hot melt glue, myself, but use 3M Super Strength Adhesive... containing MEK. I like the result; strong, not brittle; just a bit rubbery. For the reinforcement, I use plastic coated wire. The glue bonds well to the coating, (...) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Larry Pieniazek
(...) You and I had talked about a side transaction regarding these (I have a pair of Jeff C's crossovers already). Listing them on BL may be a lot less hassle from a tracking/collecting perspective so I think you should! (20 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains)

RE: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Ralph Hempel
(...) I've got one word for glue for ABS - Plastuct. You can get it at any hobby shop. It's basically a solvent glue. Hot glue grips fairly well, but doesn't really adhere to the ABS as much as fill in spaces to make a solid joint. Cut away enough (...) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —John Barnes
(...) I made some switches like these for last year's shows; (URL) used PVC pipe cement which is basically MEK with some filler. Works great if you can take the smell !!!! Also, make sure you really file the cut edges of the track cladding super (...) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —David Koudys
(...) As Ralph mentioned, hot glue really doesn't 'dig into' the plastic. But for the train rails, that's okay because there's that rather large hollow space under the rails for the hot glue/reinforcing LEGO piece. When the pieces are together, I (...)         Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —Mark Riley
(...) (Another comment, if I may) I don't think you mention it on your site (sorry if I missed it), but couldn't you take two of the switches you modified (the April 5th version) and that parallelogram bit of track and create a crossover? This would (...) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)

Re: Custom Curved Switch in our layout —David Koudys
(...) Rats! You beat me to it! I was looking at the pics at work today and thinking, "Hey, if I do this mod to another switch, I can do the double switch thingy!!! I'll do it when I get home, get pics up for tomorrow! Then it'll be perfect!!" But (...) (20 years ago, 6-Apr-04, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
