Very nice! Do you get a lot of flicker in the LED as the car rolls along? I
suppose you could do two wheels on each side to minimize flicker...

Yes the LED flickers, a little, and I will do the same with the others wheels,
it works and is very cheap. I need to work to improve the electric contact,
maybe this weekend

With my CN engine I found it necessary to put a capacitor across the leads to
smooth out the flicker. It worked quite well. I used the kind of cap that didnt
have a pos or neg. it could be used both ways.
This worked pretty good for standard DC usage. For DCC you can just use a 740ohm
directly to the LED from the function output. (from what I can see, the DH163D
decoder from Digitrax filters the output. I dont get any flicker with just a
resistor and the LED)
One point to note however. LEDs do not like hi reverse voltage for very long.
