i have a question concerning how the DCC signal is sent
Is it just sort of a "rider" on top of the power similar
to X-10 home automation signals? If so could not the RCX
be protected with diodes and used in conjunction with a
standard train controller? That way power actually comes
from the train controller and the RCX just sends the appropriate
signal telling the DCC units what to do.

Onother question i had was wether or not the RCX can still use
its sensors in the DCC "mode" If so would you not also be able
to automate other actions with the RCX as well? Say use the magnetic
sensor i saw recently to tell the RCX of the trains location then have it
stop one train to allow another to pass or to send a DCC signal to a DCC
equipt 9v grey motor (or micro motor) to automate a crossing gate, bridge or
something?

Hi Dryden, DCC sends information to the decoders by flipping the polarity of the power supply in a specific timing sequence. So, it's not like the X-10 protocol. To get more power to run more locomotives, you need something called a DCC booster. The (...) (21 years ago, 31-May-03, to lugnet.robotics.rcx, lugnet.trains)
