Hello, has anyone ever tried to build a train that has a larger gauge than the usual L-scale (be it 6, 8, or even more studs wide)? Obviously, such trains could not run on LEGO track, nor use standard LEGO train motors and wheel sets ... Greetings (...) (21 years ago, 5-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

(...) I solved the unreliable light sensor problem [1], although my version still sticks out two studs from the tracks on one side, and five out on the other. (...) Whoops. Not being a Train collector, I didn't actually realize that these were customized parts. I had to track down images of the switching rails and curved rails so I could count the ties (there are 5 missing between the switching tracks on (...) (21 years ago, 5-May-03, to lugnet.trains)

Hi ! Thanks for the link. Very interesting. Convergent technology :) Slightly different approach - very similar result. Ben only neglected one vital caveat. The actual metal rail joints have to be very very well burnished to ensure they don't have (...) (21 years ago, 5-May-03, to lugnet.trains)
