(...) No, I think his move was a good one. The classic "I know I made a mistake, but through word play I will make it seem like you are the one with the mistake" You just didn't get the joke. ~Kevoh what's this thread even about? some new train? (19 years ago, 4-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) Nice try there, J2... Well played, in fact, but no. You lose. (19 years ago, 4-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) Might not have occurred to you that I was kidding; perhaps a bit too subtle. Sorry for any confusion on your end:-) JOHN (19 years ago, 4-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed those... I think the part in question is this (URL) one>. Which unfortunately was only shipped in one set (the rather rare 3800). It would be very nice if those were available at PaB. It would be great if (...) (19 years ago, 4-May-05, to lugnet.publish.photography, lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) This is what is called pointing out that YOU were wrong, within the framework of apology. Sorry if it was a bit too subtle for you! How about this?? "You're wrong! Twice in one thread tree, no less!" (some snippage) (...) Ya, that pretty much (...) (19 years ago, 4-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) Marginally, yes. But much more important is the significant reduction in tare(1) weight, and the reduction in length. Since TOFC/COFC(2) is operated at high speeds, in long trains, less tare means more payload per horsepower used, and less (...) (19 years ago, 4-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) Yeah it will be interesting to see how that goes. From this pic it seems the axle will only protrude about 2 plates or less into the decking, uneven tracks may well work it loose. (URL) ROSCO (19 years ago, 4-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) Yeah, I cringe a little at the thought of doing something for a show that size... (...) Yep, pretty much. And it would be nice to have a specifically AU set (maybe Ghan or Southern Aurora), but I'm not sure it would be a hit anyway. I was (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) Train shows in the UK are many and have up to 20,000 visitors. I've done a 17,500 2-day show at the NEC in Brimingham as well as several 2-3000 shows and a few 500-1000 shows. I have a 14,000 show lined up for September. There are a lot of (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) Once more, slowly. I was talking about a 5 unit car. I agree that a 3 unit should work from 2 copies. But a 5 unit MAY or MAY NOT be buildable from 3 copies. It requires 4 center bogies, and 4 pairs of pivot connections. In 3 copies, you get 3 (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) OK, this is only marginally LEGO, but... why the shared bogie? As a non-train type, I've certainly seen these on the tracks, but I'm not sure I understand why it's prefered over seperate cars. Is it just cheaper to produce two cars and three (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) Well, lessee. Each set comes with 1 pivot truck and 2 end trucks. With 2 sets, we get 2 pivots and 4 end trucks. A 3 well requires 2 pivots and 2 end trucks, and the single requires 2 end trucks. That seems to work for me. The ends require (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) I think what he means (and what I'd also like to know) is: Are there enough spare parts in the set to turn the two end bogies into another middle bogie, so that one set can be re-arranged to extend a consist by two pockets. Then two sets could (...) (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) Wheels wise, sure. But unless we know how the pivots are designed, maybe not. (for example if I had kitted out my articulated design and made it a 2 unit car, you wouldn't have enough parts with 3 copies to make a 5 unit car as you'd only have (...)   Re: 10170 TTX Intermodal Double-Stack Car Preview

(...) It seems to me that 2 sets would allow one to build one 3 well car and 1 single well car, and that 3 sets would allow you to build one 5 well car and 1 single well car (in both cases with parts left over). JOHN (19 years ago, 3-May-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
