Both the piece with the "hook" and the piece with the "hole" were based on a red 2x4 plate (1/3 brick height). And a question back. Were there any other sets with London/Manchester/Glasgow on the blue 1x8 bricks? (I'm sure I have a few more (...) (23 years ago, 30-Dec-01, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Yup, that would work too. Sometimes good deals can be had on these if you keep your eyes open. Especially on the blue ones if you're not fussy about color. (...) This is a recurring topic in .trains and the consensus seems to be that a mobile RCX brick requires either that it is battery powered (not great for battery life), or that you do surgery on the motor.
