Re: Job specific titles for train and rail crew

(...) Here are a few more. Yardmaster Footboard Yardmaster (Yardmaster/Conductor type job) Flagman (used to protect the rear of stopped trains in caboose days, now used to protect non-railroad workers near the tracks) Trainmaster (in charge of a (...) (23 years ago, 24-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Building contest

(...) You mean you're procrastinating! Well I probably will tend to favor entries (all else being equal) that I get to see for longer... it's just human nature that what imprints gets remembered. (...) Bring it on! There's no restriction on how WIDE (...) (23 years ago, 24-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Building contest

(...) Ahh, we are just holding back, Frank, so as not to give the competition the edge;-) I, for one, will be entering the contest, and hopefully in more than one category... -John (23 years ago, 24-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Building contest

Hi, Right now there is a building contest running at 1000steine.de and there is no entry yet for the Trains category! There are many talented builders hanging around in lugnet.trains with creations worth entering the contest! There is no entry fee (...) (23 years ago, 24-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains) !

Re: Job specific titles for train and rail crew

(...) Actually, I heard it from a Aussie...you just have to remember, that the word use is ~50 years out of date. How many people would name the "gay" 90's like that now? (1890's...) James P (23 years ago, 24-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Job specific titles for train and rail crew

I'm gonna bet the "knocker up" is a mostly UK term as well. I think it would elicit snickers from grown men in the US (23 years ago, 24-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Job specific titles for train and rail crew

(...) You can break it down a bit, to forward and rear brakeman, and add: Ganger/Platelayer (UK term) Signalman Towerman Crossing Gate Attendent Dispatcher Station Master Porter Knocker Up (used to go and wake crew prior to shifts) Cleaner Ther's a (...)   Job specific titles for train and rail crew

I recall Fireman, Brakeman, Conductor and Engineer (if you stretch it a little: box car jumping hobo) How many other names for workers are there? Or better yet job specific titles. Steam, Diesel/Electric, Elevated or whatever. (23 years ago, 24-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: BR18 Steam Locomotive

Hello Shaun, (...) Someday, I will try to come up with a similarly cool steam engine design ... Greetings from Germany, Horst (23 years ago, 23-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Finally...

(...) You could also power a power transistor with it :) That'd take up less room... I'm not too sure as to the best approach. Perhaps a friendly Email to digitrax would get a answer as to possible approaches? James (23 years ago, 24-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Finally...

(...) That's good! For a while there I thought I had no control over my lights. But of course no modeler would put up with that! (...) Yes. But, from what I can glean from the web site, the DN142 is the same size so it will work. I was laying awake (...) (23 years ago, 23-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: any good resources for modern freight builders?

(...) Here's a great site I use alot: (URL) (23 years ago, 23-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Finally...

(...) Nope. You can turn the output on/off, but which one of the 2 is selected is dependant on direction (you have 2 discrete outputs, but can only get them on when the motor is going in the right direction, and then you action F0). So, the brakes (...) (23 years ago, 23-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Photos of PNLTC display at GATS

(...) Thanks for the kind words! (Pardon the pun) I actually did all of those. Sorry we didn't get some close-ups of the boat dealership. It had some nice touches, I thought. Large (5 stud tall) anchor on the roof next to the sign; inside: a deal (...) (23 years ago, 23-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.loc.us.wa)

  Re: Finally...

(...) From what I've read on the digitraxx web site the DN121's lights are NOT controllable. They just come on when the train moves and does auto directioning. (...) That sounds scary... Damn... I wonder what the largest decoder would be that would (...) (23 years ago, 23-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Finally...

(...) DN121's. (...) I'm using the light outputs as functions. I'm _not_ going to come out and say that it is a good idea...the F outputs are rated at 125mA, whereas a stalled lego motor draws ~650mA. So, there IS a risk of burning out the (...) (23 years ago, 23-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

any good resources for modern freight builders?

are there any good resources out there dealing with modern freight trains? Stuff like engines, rolling stock, freight yards, maintanence of way and so on? (23 years ago, 23-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: Curator for lugnet.trains

(...) Too much cut and paste, too likely to introduce errors, too labor intensive and no real benefit. It's just *not like* HTML where you upload the exact page you want after checking it out locally. This is particularly true for the front page of (...)   Re: Curator for lugnet.trains

(...) One way to test is to keep a copy in your personal Lugnet area, and test there, maybe even posting a link if you want others to check it out before updating the main page. However for something like the main trains page (or any group's main (...) (23 years ago, 22-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)
