Actually, I heard it from a Aussie...you just have to remember, that the word
use is ~50 years out of date.  How many people would name the "gay" 90's like
that now? (1890's...)

(...) I've never hear "knocker up", but the phrase "knock 'er up" has a couple of meanings in Aus - first to build something quickly, as in to "knock up a shed in the back yard".
