How do you guys deal with it? I fear using lotion, or it would soften up my
paws, and you know we need strong hands to pry apart plates.

Strong hands to pry apart plates? I use my fingernails or attach another
brick then snap both parts off. I used to find I always had the urge to
build just after cutting my nails short. :-)

The worst Lego hand mangler is removing model team tyres from model team
hubs. It really hurts if you don't do it right. My Abrams has seven road
wheels per side a total of THIRTY TWO tyre removals! I remember having to
take breaks to let my fingers recover. I ended up testing the tyres first to
find the more flexible ones. I also used implements like nail scissors as
tyre irons.

I wont even use black pegs without a slot down the side, I sort them into a
pot. I built a tool to pop them out of the red test car beofre I discard them.

Steve

Oh I'm so with you on the old black pegs--they were absolute killers to get
out of beams 'n such!  Never having thrown away *any* piece of LEGO, I have
all those old black pegs in a container somewhere, along with other 'old'
technic pieces (square pistons and stuff...)  Who knows?  Maybe I'll just
give 'em all to someone I dislike ;)

For myself, if I stop building, especially with Technic, for a few months,
my fingers get sore quickly when I start building again.  Of course, I
haven't made anything as extravagant as Eric, so my digits are probably
thankful for that.  After a while, during the building process, the pauses
for considering, 'Where do I go from here?' is usually enuf rest for the
hands to recoup.

Lovely topic btw.

(...) I'm totally ruthless with friction pins - if they're just a little tight they go in the bin. I also often grab all the seller's pins when I do a bricklink order, to re-fill my bin (most sellers don't have heaps of pins) 8?) (...) Well, I guess (...)
