best set for micromotors, pneumatics —Ben Jackson
I hate to ask this question, but I just can't work it out from the DB or the the technic website... What is the best set to buy to get some micromotors? I know now that the space shuttle set has one (wish I'd known that when I saw one on (...) (24 years ago, 2-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: best set for micromotors, pneumatics —John Morgan
Hi Ben, If you are just looking for the Micro motors your best bet is probably S@H.. the barcode truck doesnt have any pnuematics , it uses the flex system cables the crane truck and the indy storm use only that new "hydrolic action" compression (...)      (...) mentioned Since I havn't seen this set up close I have to wonder... Surely this can't really be a LEGO Hydraulic system, to parallel the pneumatic system? Have I missed something?          Re: best set for micromotors, pneumatics —Richard Earley
The "new" part is a spring powered air "controled" device. It looks like an oversized technic "shock absorber". But is uses a pneumatic plunger with limited air flow to slow the movement. -Rich (...) (24 years ago, 2-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: best set for micromotors, pneumatics —John Morgan
Hi Iain, Richard is correct about it being a air device . I put Hydraulic in qoutes because there was much discussion about Lego advertizing a "Hydraulic" action when no real fluid is involved, unless you count air as a fluid. the New part works (...) It sounds to me like a hydraulic/pneumatic snubbing cylinder. Thanks for the explanation! Iain (24 years ago, 2-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

(...) I (...) one (...) You could get in touch with one of the Zany Brainy's that still has the 8480 on sale for $75 as a clearance piece. I was in one today that still had 5 of them on the floor (literally, on the floor ;-) ) that were marked $75. (...) (24 years ago, 2-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.market.shopping)

(...) [snip] Well to follow up on my own post, I must say the 8462 Tow Truck is a great "parts" set, although the main model is so nice you might be unwilling to take it apart. This set is LOADED with big beams, plus the of course the pneumatics. (...) (24 years ago, 16-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: best set for micromotors, pneumatics —Ari M. Weinstein
(...) <<SNIP I just bought the 8479 Barcode Truck on eBay. I hope I don't regret it! But I wanted to comment on two things: First, the 8446 Crane Truck is a great set. No pneumatics, but a lot of fun to build and play with. Really nice gearing and (...) (24 years ago, 23-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

(...) D'oh!!! But then again it's now up to $15.50 with 9 days to go... and mine is MISB, so blah... :-) BTW, searching for 8479s sold on eBay indicates that $150 - $155 is about the going rate these days. We know eBay isn't the cheapest. A (24 years ago, 24-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Yes, perusing eBay it's easy to come to that conclusion. Is there somewhere where the prices aren't quite as inflated? There are occasionally good values to be had, but it's rare. (24 years ago, 28-Jan-00, to lugnet.technic)
