    New Tower Crane —Andrew Bissell
I have just updated my web site with a new tower crane built a few weeks ago. I would very much appreciate your comments. Something I am interested to know is what type of string you use for your crane winch? I used Carpet Stiching Twine for it's (...) (23 years ago, 27-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: New Tower Crane —Thomas (T. J.) Avery
(...) I haven't found any good string either. I've used simple cotton thread and also nylon rope. Both types have residual "twist" that effects your block, particularly when it's lowered all the way and the string length is long. I suppose you'll (...)       Oh duh, I forgot to say a few other things. Nice Job! The crane looks good. Keep us informed of your progress in the modifications, I look forward to it. What loads have you tried lifting? To all those saying, "blah, another crane?". I say, "you can (...) (23 years ago, 27-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Time to correct T.J I think, I'm certainly not tired of cranes, but I am tired of you defending them against people who say there are to many cranes featured in this group. After some in depth research (Well 5 minutes worth, if that), I can't (...) (23 years ago, 27-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Alas there was one heretic some time ago to whom I had to respond :-) (URL) just been inspired by seeing a Demag AC120 this morning I can say for sure that my crane building days are far from over! Jennifer (23 years ago, 28-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Mine either! Speaking of cranes (again) I finally got around to updating my links page. Check out the crane links just in case you haven't seen any of these. I've linked to Dennis Bosman's Brickshelf gallery on which he's added many pictures (...) (23 years ago, 28-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

(...) Tempting us with talk of a new crane, but leaving us to only imagine what it looks like or what it's configuration might be :-). Steve to the rescue, I have a Demag link in my favourite's so it was easy to find. Pics: (URL) (23 years ago, 28-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: New Tower Crane —Derek Raycraft
(...) Awesome crane! As for string, I've been using a special fishing line I discovered. Unfortunately I'm not a fisherman so I can't describe what its for but I can tell you what it looks like. Its a black braided thread, much like lego string. Its (...) (23 years ago, 29-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

Re: New Tower Crane —Thomas (T. J.) Avery
On your website you talk about changing the winch and doing something different than a rack gear system. I saw this once on a light-duty construction crane: (URL) not 100% certain about the mechanism that drove the trolly back and forth, but the (...) (23 years ago, 27-Aug-01, to lugnet.technic)

Use kite string, the kind used for stunt kites.
