Well after approximately 5 hours, I just finished building my recently acquired 8880 Supercar, and frankly it lives up to the hype... Very good working features, drivetrain is quite remarkable. IMHO, the best thing one could do with this set would to take a Mindstorms set to it and combine them both. The big thing one might be missing is the problem of the sounds that the barcode unit makes, but that's not really that inviting, although it (...) (25 years ago, 17-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

Duq, I once had a 8t gear in rack & pinion lifter break on me - it was only a single width rach, though. It was in a fair-ground ride I built (many years ago). Hi all, I'm running into trouble with my mobile crane project. The boom is pretty heavy. I want to raise it with a rack/pinion, but I wonder how much force they can take? I have a new (I think) method for using the turntables as jumbo gears. Pop the turntable into two parts. Push the inner teeth down through the hole and pull up on the outer teeth with your fingers. Hey Everyone, It looks like the 8479 Barcode Multiset ((URL) has finally gone the way of the dodo. S@H now shows it as "No Longer Available". The S@H catalog I got in the mail last week didn't have it. The one before that did. So they must have just recently decided to pull it from the printed materials, and the Boss packages were made up before that. Funny thing about the Indy Storm, one (...) Ok, after tinkering with this for months, I finally have a complete Lego clock that strikes the hours! It is completely mechanical, and non-electric. I was just over to my local K-mart and they had put out 5 or 6 each of the 10 small Throwbots, so I got one went to the checkout and instead of 6 dollars it scanned for 50 cents!!, yep that's $.50, HALF a buck!!. They probably stopped making them a year ago, left them in the S@H catalog as long as they had a big stack of them in the warehouse, and are only down to a handfull now. It's still up at shop.lego.com until that last handfull is gone, that way (...) (25 years ago, 15-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)
