I know it is a bit off topic, but it needs to be noted that the original
Star Wars trilogy is slated to be released on DVD this September. I
guess that is how they are going to raise intrest in the final
installment.

Would that it were so, but theforce.net links to a New York Post article
that says that the DVDs will only have the Special Editions.

If they had the remotest connection to the fanbase, they'd put both versions on.

Notice that the press release on starwars.com is silent on this issue,
since LucasFilm presumably wants some of these to sell.

That's because George doesn't think of them as 'Special Editions'. To him they
are the finished films - the ONLY edition. Although there are rumours that there
will be further farting around with parts 4, 5 & 6 to make the new trilogy
appear less contrived. These will probably come out after Ep III, ensuring
diehard fanboys with have to buy yet another version of the films. How many will
that make it? 5? 6? $$$kaching$$$. Easier than making whole new movies I
suppose.

Cynically,

Allister

He is a modern day Howard Hughes when it comes to dealing with the reality of his fans. He forgets that his lovely ranch was paid (...) (21 years ago, 11-Feb-04, to lugnet.starwars)
